TKO'd...

...by the Knockout Rose.  In the corner to my left, wearing the crimson red.   Packs a punch and is known to hit below the belt with it's beauty. Totally TKO'd my day.  So much for grand plans.  Or even those plain old things I was suppose to do.  When the sun shines, and then it rains, and then the sun shines again on these brilliant pops of color AND their dew drops?  Sometimes ya just have to roll with the punches, and realize God had something better planned for you.  Which meant...I grabbed my camera.  Everything else will still be there tomorrow.

When it comes to gardening I'm a Palooka.  A nobody.  A no talent.  Yeah, I remember to water my babies...for about a week.  I always have the best intentions...for about a week.  Disclaimer:  don't judge my parenting skills by my gardening skills.  I DO remember to water my Things (metaphorically of course).

I planned a formal rose garden a number of years ago.  The Better Half dug, where I told him.  Installed a beautiful iron fence, where I told him. I researched roses...what to do, what not to do.  Bought my roses.  The Better Half planted them, where I told him.  I like to get my hands dirty like that. Then...the beetles came and sucker punched me.  My rose garden became a den of iniquity.  Boy those buggers like to have sex. A LOT OF SEX.  All over my rose garden that apparently wasn't as formal to them...as it was to me.  And all that sex?  Created huge appetites. For the roses.  Altho, I'm still not sure when they had the time to actually eat.

Plus...have you even been dive bombed in the head by beetles suffering from "beetle interruptus"?  I threw in the towel, soon after the night I went to bed and found a beetle still in my freakin' hair.  I was sucker punched. Not to mention afraid to go near my roses OR my pillow.

Hey, I never promised you a rose garden.  But then?  Enter the Knockout.  Flying high now.  Palooka proof!  Beetle free (aka sex free..which is awesome because they are at my front door, and nothing says "welcome" like insects fornicating!).   I've never even watered these babies.  So they are obviously "best intention" proof too.  No green thumb necessary.  And man, how these guys like to show off!  They sure pack a punch. Saved by the bell.

However, I feel I should apologize to the neighborhohod kids for no longer supplying the visual aid for that all important "birds and the bees beetles" lesson.

Here's where I "link up" today.

Please join me on Sundays for Song-ography.
This week's song title is the Zac Brown Band's "Chicken Fried".

  1. Beautiful shots of these roses! There is something about raindrops or dew on roses that is just simply stunning.

I don't know if I have a green thumb or not. I am trying it out this year with a garden. I haven't had any kind of garden in years, so I am learning as I go. Lessons have already been learned. The hard way. :-)

  2. I hope you have a sense of pride about those roses, each angle and perspective you have shown here is gorgeous - and they are so brilliantly a traditionally rose red. Thanks, Renee.

  3. What gorgeous photos Kathy. Seeing them is the only way I can enjoy them as I have a strange allergic reaction to them. It sure saves Mike a bundle though. Have a great weekend!

  7. Beyond gorgeous! Love the light, the droplets...Mostly glad you got outside and outside your head and the "to do" list for a little bit of you time. We are surely the beneficiaries of that! How you manage to combine such beauty with so many chuckles is beyond me! Happy Weekend!

  13. She truly is a knockout! I have two, a red and a pink one. A couple of years ago hubby made a rose garden area. Each of my 5 kids gave me a rose for Mothers Day. My youngest son gave me the red knockout and it has been one of the best performers! Thanks for sharing your lovely photos with SYC.
    hugs,
    Jann
