A heartfelt day...

"City of Brotherly Love"
Sidewalks of Philadelphia

It's no secret.  Thanksgiving is my fav holiday of the year.  Didn't use to be.  But somewhere along the path of maturing and embracing blessings, I changed the order of holiday status and moved Thanksgiving to the top spot over Christmas.  I do love my ho-ho-ho's, but Christmas has become a bit too commercial for my liking, and I think the true spirit of the holiday has taken a back seat in the process.  Thanksgiving is probably moving in that direction too.  But I'm holding steadfast to it.  It's 100% about giving thanks, and surrounding myself with family, friends and loved ones...and stuffing.  I don't shop on Black Friday.  I very rarely leave the house the entire weekend.  For many reasons.  But I don't want to eat all day on Thursday, then have to put on my fat pants to push around and bunch of other people in their fat pants at the mall.  I'd rather stay home and enjoy my blessings, surrounded by family, friends and loved ones...and stuffing.  I am just so darn thankful to have so many of my blessings in one place at the same time...family, friends and loved ones, and...stuffing.

"As we express our gratitude,
we must never forget the highest appreciation  is not to utter words,
but to live by them."

-John Fitzgerald Kennedy

I wish you all the most blessed Thanksgiving yet!  And may you all be rich in the way it matters...filled to the brim with gratitude, family, friends and loved ones...and stuffing.

Day #23.  November 23rd -  I am thankful that God gave my Thing #3 a gift that I do not have.  A beautiful instrument, her voice.  And I am grateful that Thing #3 uses that gift brilliantly and was rewarded by being selected to District Chorus.

Day #24.  November 24th - I am thankful for rainy days.  And sofas.  And mugs of hot coffee.  And my furry blanket.  And movies OnDemand.  And that the Better Half still loves me in sweatpants sans makeup and glasses.

Day #25.  November 25th - I am grateful for unexpected phone calls from friends.  They probably do not even realize how their voices can be the best tonic for a down day.

Day #26 - November 26th - I am thankful for my birthday.  After this past year, I do realize not everyone is fortunate enough to be celebrating another birthday.  So thank you, even tho I'm not THAT happy with the "number".  But I'll take it, and I'll embrace it.

Day #27 - November 27th - I am grateful for a roof over my head, a full refrigerator, a kitchen to prepare in, and family, friends and loved ones to cook for...and stuffing.

Here's where I'm linking up today ..."The Party's On"

  1. Happy Birthday! And may you have many more.

I enjoyed your commentary on Thanksgiving. I, too, refuse to shop on Black Friday, and I love to stay home and enjoy the quiet reflection that comes with Thanksgiving. This year my husband and I are doing something different, though. We're going to Mountain Lake, Virginia for the day to enjoy their Thanksgiving buffet. We went to Mountain Lake for our honeymoon 10 years ago, so it will be fun to revisit the place, even for a day. :-) Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

  11. I have to agree with you in my older age. Thanksgiving is just a wonderful quite time even if I have to do all the work. I love to hunker down. I love Christmas too, but it has gotten so stressful. One could stay busy every night of the season if not careful to place a few necessary no responses on the calendar. I do have to confess that my husband and I shop Black Friday together. Mainly because it is so rare for us to get out together and we make a lunch date out of it. Nothing is particularly necessary to have and we don't do doorbusters

  13. Love this simple heart street art. I agree this season is overly focused on consumption, being in the comfort of home with family is much more satisfying :)

  15. Happy Birthday and I hope that you have still all the "things " with you and a lot more stuffing! Black Friday is unknown over here…a blessing! Having just returned from India I feel so blessed just living where I live and knowing that I will always have a roof over my head, a bathroom, clean water….

  17. Oh, so Kathy, let me ask you something:

    Do you love STUFFING!!!???

Your sense of humor is perfect. I love pumpkin pie! If I am going to carbo-load, I'll take the pie over the stuffing. But you know each year, I miss my Mom's dressing that she made a certain way that wasn't the "Betsy Crocker / Martha Stewart" recipes but I loved it. She sort of burned it and the crunchy edges were DIVINE. awh~
