Song-ography, the "If I Had a Million Dollars" edition...

IF I found an extra mil laying around, I'd probably have a heart attack.  Therefore the whole question of what I would do with it would be moot. However, given that I don't suffer some sort of euphoria induced health calamity...what would I do?  According to their song, The Barenaked Ladies would apparently buy a house, put up a tree fort, with a small fridge, and stock it with pre-wrapped sausage and things.  Yes, that could possibly buy my love depending on what the other "things" in that fridge are.  But quite honestly, I'd rather be eating things that AREN'T in my own fridge.  If I had a million dollars I would hit the road, air, open seas, tracks, pedals...and eat things in other fridges while travelling....ANYWHERE.

"Travelling Man"
Hamilton, New Jersey
(FYI, I would NOT be in New Jersey if I had a million dollars!)

I didn't start REALLY travelling until I was in my mid-forties.  Up until that point, my travel consisted mainly of accompanying my Things to various baseball tournaments and swim meets around the country.  But once I took my first trip to Germany, I was inflicted with a serious case of Wanderlust, 'vielen dank'.  Remedied only by letting the symptoms take hold and dragging me along for the journey.  Yep, a million bucks would sure help feed my disease.  Of course, I'm thinking one million PRE-tax dollars.  Because it is no fun to think about one million minus 33.3% post-tax (thank you Uncle Sam!).  However, I could live with THAT too...if pressed.

Can't wait to see how YOU would spend a million dollars.  A big shout-out to Molly at "365.Mollysdailykiss" for this week's Song-ography suggestion.  Please feel free to post any song you'd like to see here on Song-ography, or send me an email (kmcblackburn@gmail.com).  Before you link up, here is next week's song...

"I Want to Break Free"
Queen

I'm trying to select songs where there are many avenues open to interpretation.  You can take the title and/or lyrics literally or "break free" and run with them.  Looking forward to seeing your creativity.  And thanks for linking up to Song-ography!

  1. I never would have guessed that you'd travel with that million dollars! I'd guess that you would have some very nice new shoes on your feet during those travels. :). That guy on the bike makes me a little nervous. I hope an Amtrak doesn't fly by!

  2. I'd first pay off the mortgage and then I'd travel. Need some place to come back when the money's gone. :)
The juxtaposition of bike and train track is daunting. There must be a story there.

Love the premise of this meme. I may have to join in soon.

  3. Me too...my husband and I often talk about keeping it simple on the home front, so we have the means to travel to see friends and family and places we love! This was a great choice - I spent a lot of time thinking about this one!

  4. I agree with you... Why would I want to eat my own food when I could just eat out and not have to worry about dirty dishes or left-overs. It's always fun to think what one would do with a million dollars though. Such an interesting shot of the biker and the train tracks. Makes you wonder where he is heading off to. - To answer your question on my entry. I believe that is an antique car that has been renovated to a stretch limo. This one drives around town here quite often. We have tons of Wineries here so it's available for people taking wine tours among other things.

    1. Ida, I was so taken with this gentleman on his bike. I have seen this quite often while in Europe...but never in America. He took his bike onto the train. However, I lost track of him and did not see where he disembarked.

  6. I really had to scale down my money dream this week because I am usually dreaming of the big $300M powerball win. I guess I've been too greedy!

  8. Yes, indeed! It's amazing what real travels will do! There is such a freedom in getting to be anonymous while traveling too. Not that I'm breaking laws or anything...but you just get to be without those expectations you mentioned!

  9. I've had some intense wanderlust myself. I've never gotten very far, but I've got hope in the future I just might!

  10. The moment I read the lyrics, I had a certain image in my mind which I think I captured with my niece this week.
But alas, if I really had a million dollars I'd pay off the mortgage, give to some very deserving people and then travel - wandering every sandy beach I could find in the world.

  13. Oh, if I had a million bucks I wouldn't go for stuff I would go for travel. You can lose your stuff, nobody can take your experiences and memories away from you.
Thank you for hosting this meme. I love it.

  14. A million bucks? Travel would definitely be a part of it. I'd bank a lot of it and set up donations to charities from the interest.

  17. Definitely in your boat on the travel. Only thing is, I am afraid that a million would be like a drop in the bucket. Love your shot Kathy, as always... you are a great photographer with a wonderful eye!

  18. I'm with you -- I'd be traveling, anywhere, any time. Extra money, travel -- always my first thought! This is a great theme for this week. The posts are so fun to read. Thanks for hosting us!

  19. I agree with Karen...the man is too close to the train tracks ! And like everyone else before me...I would travel and linger when I like a place and just take my time. I guess I am lucky that I always had the opportunity to travel and visit many different countries ...an advantage of living in Europe.Every couple of hundred miles you end up speaking in a different language, eating different food and experience another culture and history.
Thanks for hosting and I am already singing " I want to break free" to the annoyance of the family ( I can`t sing!)

  20. I'm with you Kathy .... I'd be off and running .... there is so much of this country that I haven't seen and I want to.
    It's nice to dream.....isn't it?
BTW......for some reason my blog was having issues and my finch photo wasn't showing up. I think it's working now ... fingers crossed.

  27. The title of this melody could be a never ending song - clearly, a mil might not cover the tab. I actually considered seeing your million and raising you a "Billionaire" (by Travie McCoy/Bruno Mars). "I wanna be a billionaire so f'ing bad, buy of all the things I never had. I want to be on the cover of Forbes Magazine smiling next to Oprah and The Queen..."

Travel (possibly even to New Jersey) would be on the list.

  29. It's no wonder you have a special relationship with your James Dean - look at what the two of you can create. Again, as alway in my limited technological talk, that's amazing 'distance' you've managed in this capture, it's pure pleasure as a viewer from this end. Am also enjoying the quality of photos you are receiving in the link ups. Thanks, Renee.

  31. That's what I would do, too. My husband and I always say that if we miraculously went from being a poor military family (the kind that is NOT sent to cool faraway places!) to wealthy, we'd travel the world.
