(**disclaimer: no you have not entered a time warp. Altho this is Scavenger Hunt SUNDAY, I'm posting on Saturday. As Thing #2, who is visiting from Cincy, so eloquently stated over a couple glasses of wine last night "Who IS this Irene character?" I think we will all get the answer to that tonight and tomorrow. So while I still have electricity, I will take advantage and go ahead and post for Sunday. Now....excuse me while I yet again take advantage of electricity and go blow dry my hair before an onslaught of "bad hair days" are upon me.)
Another Sunday and you know what that means....Hurricane Irene AND Scavenger Hunt Sunday!!!! It's been an exciting week here in Philly. First we had an earthquake that rumbled all the way up the eastern seaboard. Which lead to two observations: yes my house can actually bend, and Thing #3 didn't think it was so funny when I told her she had to wear a helmet in the house (she REALLY needs to learn to take a joke!). And NOW??!!?? A hurricane is taking aim at us. I'd say "when it rains it pours" but I don't want to curse my sump pump at the moment.

Hoping my electricity and internet connection hold on long enough so that I can enjoy my normal Sunday morning routine of perusing "Ramblings and Photos" Scavenger Hunt Sunday with a couple cups of coffee. This week's prompts were REALLY difficult for me. My creativity took a serious bruising. I'm looking forward to seeing how other photographers answered the challenges, and I anticipate admonishing my computer screen with "Why didn't 'I' think of that!" quite a few times.
So, without further adieu:
So, without further adieu:
1. Music
"I really should have studied flute,
Harmonica, or chimes.
A clarinet is nice and light;
A fiddle would be fine.
But I had to take piano,
And my teacher is a brute.
He lives up seven flights of stairs.
(I wish I played the flute.)
-Shel Silverstein
2. Sun
"People are like stained-glass windows.
They sparkle and shine when the sun is out,
but when the darkness sets in,
their true beauty is revealed
only if there is a light from within."
--Elisabeth Kubler Ross
3. Old and New
Peek-a-boo! I love how these "new" daisies are peeking around the corner of the "old" stone pillars.
4. Cheesy
Seriously, WHO would want to paint their walls in processed "American Cheese"?????? Benjamin Moore must believe there is a certain demographic who wants to have a nice glass of wine and meat/fruit plate to pair with their walls.
5. Night Photography
This was a new challenge for me. My better half didn't even notice I was missing during the 5th inning of the Phillies game when I grabbed my camera and snuck out into the night to experiment. At first I played around with shadows cast by the moonlight. But then my Knockout Roses in the front yard caught my eye.
Given that Irene has invited herself to my home and I have no idea how long she is staying...how about a "flooding" or "downed trees" prompt for next week's Scavenger Hunt??? Thanks for stopping by and as always...feel free to leave your thoughts. And....let's be careful out there!

I would never know this challenge was difficult for you, your photos were great and creative. I was not disappointed!
ReplyDeleteThe photos alone are breathtaking and then to read the quotes with them, I love it, especially the stained glass quote. I hope this weekend doesn't saturate you all too much.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to be doing this scavenger hunt for the first time. The Good Life Stasha has given me the courage to try it. So I am glad to have discovered your site by participating!
Every week you excel. I love the sun and the music one. And night shot. OK, love them all.
ReplyDeleteI truly hope Irene did not knock on your door to hard and you are safe.
Kathy hope Irene behaves herself for you guys up that way. We were lucky down here in Florida (and I'm on the east coast). Glad you were able to post before you (might) lose power. I have to say I love your entire set. I love the Old&New (very creative) and love your music. Stay safe!!!

ReplyDeleteHope all is well with you. Great shots as always - I particularly love your music image, such beautiful tones. The name of that paint made me lol!
ReplyDeleteBarbara...isn't that hilarious??!!?? I think in my next life I want to either be:
ReplyDelete1. The person who gets to name the Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavors
OR
2. The person who comes up with the names for paint colors.
These are INCREDIBLE and creative! I love them all, but the wine and cheese~so funny!
ReplyDeleteI love the old and new, that's so clever!!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful Music shot! I had to laugh when I read that accompanying quote to Music by Shel Silverstein. I'm hoping that my kids won't ask to learn to play the cello and that if they are to take up a musical instrument that it be a piccolo or something similarly small and compact!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are so creative! I love the cheesy paint!! Eww! Your old/new shot is magnificent. I love the angle you have shot from.
ReplyDeleteStay safe and all the best with the coming days/weeks.
So creative!! Love cheesy and old and new! Hope you're weathering the storm well, it's getting nasty up here in Boston! Stay safe and dry!
ReplyDeleteThis entire set is really beautiful - I just hope you guys are okay through Irene. We were okay but she caused a lot of destruction.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, I like them all!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are really great!!! I especially love the cheesy and old and new....isn't it fun always looking for the details that most people don't even notice? Very nice....
ReplyDeleteYour night photo is awesome! I just love it!
ReplyDeleteI hope you made it through Irene okay. You're words are so perfectly paired with the photos. I love the night photo (and that he didn't notice you were gone, my boyfriend wouldn't notice if I left during a Philly game either!)
ReplyDeleteI love your photos and your comments with each one. I pray that you, your family, and your home survived Irene, weather can be a blessing or a curse. I was so busy these last few days with my son in town that I did not get a chance to comment on your texture photo....thumbs up!! Stay safe, stay dry.
ReplyDeleteI hope everything is ok there.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are great. I love the old and new perspective, and music has a nice softness to it.
Thanks for your comment.. the night photography had a little process, I busted the black and contrast and clarity :), it was not quite dark before.
Great shots for this weeks items, and i love your " old and new" :)
ReplyDeleteThat's cool that you took a picture of your roses at night. Love your cheese photo! It's so funny:)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, the pictures, the quotes--absolute perfection!
ReplyDeleteI hope you still have electricity!

ReplyDeleteThese are delightful! You are so creative, love them all. I loved the quotes and your writing too. I hope you still have power and are enjoying your day!
ReplyDeleteOH my goodness. Your photos are amazing. That cheesy photo is beautiful and funny.. So clever.. I so enjoyed reading your post. Thanks. And keep safe from the storm..
ReplyDeleteHugs, Linda
Love that flute!
ReplyDeleteHi. Oh my!! I hope the weather calms for you and your family!! And your photos are wonderful and you nailed all the prompts (to me)! I absolutely love ALL of them and the quotes are perfect for each of them!
ReplyDeleteI hope Irene spared you the brunt of her fury.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your scavenger hunt. I especially like the flute.
You like my Brownie, ehh? So I'm assuming from your post that it is a camera and that you used to use one. Perhaps I'm way off base but if not, please share some information with me. I know nothing about it and would love to know something... anything! Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeletep.s. love the shot of the American cheese!! Great creativity!
Yes, definitely a camera...my first one actually. You hold it down about waist level and look down into it for the view of the photo. There should be a knob on the top that you turn to wind the film to the next frame. Yes, you need film :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic set, love your commentary also, hope you're keeping safe. Love your music and sun shots, but they're all wonderful.
ReplyDeleteLove your impressions...the old and new one is gorgeous!!! =)
ReplyDeleteThis set is georgous! I especially like the stained glass
ReplyDeleteWow...amazing collection! The quote with music is so great, too.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME set of photos for this week. Love your night photography and old and new!!
