"Song-ography...

"Baby there ain't no mountain high enough
... to keep me from gettin' to you babe."

-Ain't No Mountain High Enough (Marvin Gaye)

"To Keep Me From Gettin' To You"
High Camp
Squaw Valley, California

So how did I get this photo you ask (rhetorically...of course!).  Well, it required me to seriously suppress my fear of heights (literally...of course!). Because first, I had to get in this little cable car. Not only get in it, BUT I had to act all nonchalant and totally down with the idea.  Because there was a little 5 year-old girl standing next to me totally challenging my cable car cred.

And then I had to go up (and not cry)...

"Which Way to High Camp?"
Squaw Valley, California

...and up (and still not cry).  The 5 year-old thought it was funny when I said "There's more?" every time we crested another peak.  Nobody likes a self-assured 5 year-old, when you aren't!

...and up some more (tear ducts about to explode).  You know, it was kinda like when you are at Disney.  And you are standing in line for a ride.  And you get closer and closer to the actual ride as the line moves.  And you THINK you are almost there.  And THEN?????  You round a bend in the line and realize, oh wow... NOT EVEN CLOSE...plenty of time to scarf down another chocolate covered, Mickey Mouse ear-shaped, ice cream bar!

"Are We There Yet?"
Squaw Valley, California

But gotta admit.  The end result was kinda worth it.  Yep, these are the mountains where the 1960 Olympics took place.  The Sierra Nevada Mountains in Squaw Valley, California.  Reaching the top ALMOST made me feel Olympian myself...in a microscopic, who am I kidding, kinda way.

Until it occurred to me that what goes up?  Has to go back down.  Even better?  That same 5 year-old was with me yet again.  Is it bad of me to have laughed when she whispered to her mom "I don't remember it being THIS high when we were coming up!"????  Welcome to the club honey. Apparently Karma doesn't believe in age discrimination, OR whether you feel Olympian or not.

Ain't no mountain high enough, to keep me from laughing at you babe!

Another Tuesday, another Song-ography. Welcome back! And welcome to any new participants. VERY easy concept here:

Song/Lyrics + Photo(s) = Song-ography

I do ask that if you decide to link up, that you do abide by the concept of Song-ography.  Random posts will be deleted (sorry...but I ask so little else). Thank you to all who stop by, take a look, comment, link up, and/or visit some of the fellow Song-ography participants.  All are appreciated!  I look forward to doing that myself, visiting your blogs and leaving a comment.  It's always a real pleasure to do so.

  2. Wow, what a view. My mom and my daughter have a deep seated FEAR of heights so I can appreciate your mounting anxiety as that car climbed that incredible mountain. And now you can say you did it.

  3. Completely gorgeous, but also Xanax worthy! I'm more afraid of heights than I originally thought I was...or maybe it's just age that causes one to pause. Like Nicki's, my mom is deathly afraid of heights. Some of that must have rubbed off on me, as well. Kudos to you for going up anyway!

  4. Woah. Terrifying. And Breathtaking. And, yes, worth it!! These shots are so cool cause they compare the gigantic with the small...be it people, cable car or fir tree. Love them!

  5. Hahaha - nothing better than a little kid to make you bring out the best in you, right?! But the photos prove that the view really was worth it. Awesome - one day I'll make it there, too, maybe. Because like you I am extremely afraid of heights. Makes skiing in the Alps kind of difficult...

  6. It is amazing what heights we go to for the perfect shot! Honestly tho, not sure I could have been as brave. These photos are beautiful.

  7. I am smiling while going through your post, and it was really fun! That is because you write well, moreover i can fully relate with you because i feel the same with heights. My sister has to plead with me for 2 days so i will join her in Queenstown to ride that thing high up to the mountain. And as you said, "the end result was kinda worth it". I was able to take lots of photos after we got off on top, then coming down is not that scary anymore.

  10. I love this concept. A great way to tell a story and it made me laugh. I don't like heights either but make myself go in cable cars. Actually having a 5 year old in with me might make me "Man Up" lol.
