"Song-ography, the 'Thinking Out Loud' edition...

(my late and inexpensive Valentine sentiment for the Better Half)

So, I'm thinkin' out loud here.  Thirty-three years ago they said "It wouldn't last."  Actually, that MIGHT have been moi doing the talking.  Because you might be surprised to learn...I'm just not that easy to put up with.  As usual, the Better Half proved me wrong.  Getting a little tired of that!

" 'Cause honey your soul could never grow old, it's evergreen...

...I will be loving you 'til we're 70
and, my heart could still fall as hard at 23
and I'm thinking 'bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways...

In MY case, it was when the Better Half chucked a bucket of water on me in college.  What truly IS mysterious is that I didn't immediately  hate on him for ruining my 1980's Farrah Fawcett 'do!  Instead?  I went out on a date with his friend.

(it's also mysterious how I fell for a guy with THAT hair cut!)

...when my hair is all gone and my memory fades,
I know you will still love me the same...

Never fear.  Even if dementia strikes me down (and you KNOW I test myself daily!),  I will STILL remember you threw that bucket of water on me! But that's okay, because I made you cut your hair.  WINNING.

...Maybe just the touch of a hand
Well, me - I fall in love with you every single day."

Not too shabby for a pair who aren't overly romantic in the traditional sense.  What says romance to moi via the Better Half?  All the little things. All the every day things (disclaimer:  he is good at the grand gestures too).  Coffee brewing, coming downstairs in the morning to find no dirty dishes in the sink, asking "do you feel like getting me a pint of Ben & Jerry's?" and the Better Half understanding it really isn't a question, being a great dad, having a kind soul, thinking of others before himself, constantly proving me wrong...getting rid of the mullet (because he KNEW I was right about THAT!).  When it comes right down to it, I am extremely blessed.  I can't help but believe he feels short changed...EXCEPT for the better hair cut.

...I'm thinking out loud
that maybe we found love right where we are."

-Thinking Out Loud (Ed Sheeran)

Happy Valentine's Day Better Half.  I was just waiting for the right time to give you your gift.  In the immortal words of Elvis and our first dance "I can't help falling in love with you."  Betcha were hoping I was gonna quote "hunka hunka burning love" tho, right?!?!

P.S.  I STILL have that V-Day card I haven't signed for you yet..up on the bedside table.  I'll just put it aside for next year.  Because I'm "frugal" like that.

Before you link up for this week's Song-ography, take a look at the song suggestion for next Tuesday.  Besides being an amaaaazing song to run to (seriously, try NOT to get energized by it), it's just a downright inspiring tun.  I give it a 9, it's got a good beat to dance to...

  1. So so sweet! You two are adorable - to 30+ more years!

  2. Very sweet and and wonderful tribute to so many wonderful married years.

  3. Can I say that I truly enjoy looking at your posts. And there's many that I consider favourites. This is one of them. What a spectacular dreamy perfectly captured heartfelt photo. And what a heartfelt post about the reality of a partnership, and your gratefulness for him. Can I say that he looks so proud of you in all the photos. Thank you Kathy, Renee.

  4. You look perfect and I absolutely love your wedding shot!

  5. Such a beautiful post. Your Batter Half is clearly very lucky to have you.

  6. Too adorable. A relationship is everything they don't show on TV or in the movies. Love, true love, is when you survive past the lust and dreamy-eyed stage and realize that not only do you like this person, but deeper. Even with all their shortcomings - and if they are human they have them - you still have their back and enjoy their company. Romance in our household lies firmly with my husband --- and he got me a carpet cleaner one Christmas.

    1. Kind of reassuring to know there are other's like us in the "romance challenged" tribe :)

  7. Congratulations Mrs. Blackburn.............he sure is a keeper. And, so are you. I pray the good Lord gives me and Mike 30 years; we did get a late start though so who knows. Enjoy your day!

  8. What a wonderful love letter. You really found each other... Hahaha - that bucket of water must make for great stories. And your old(er) photos? Totally 80s!

  9. Are you old enough to be familiar with that old Clairol line, "You're not getting older, you're getting better"? In your case they were sure right! You look gorgeous. Congratulations to you and your true love.

    1. Thank you BUT...you should see me at the moment! haha.

  10. You keep getting better looking!! Love the old photos and this sweet post! Congratulations!

  11. Once again your post has me smiling. A true Love story my friend.

  12. you are sooooo funny!!! my husband had the exact same haircut and RED hair. i feel in love with his soul, that was much more amazing than his hair!!!

ohhhhh and i made chuck cut his hair as well!!! it's been pretty much like that since. 36 years for us and i could not be happier!!!

  13. Welp - you got a bucket of water thrown on you. Dream Boy farted on me in the car on the way home on our 1st date. His reasoning was to see if I had a sense of humor before asking me out again.
    (1) I laughed like a hyena - might have had something to do with the pitcher of beer I had consumed.
    (2) Isn't there an old saying that you'll marry someone who reminds you of your dad? If not, there should be.
That's my story & I'm sticking to it(I hope this didn't post twice, my computer is being wonky on me today)

  14. Such a beautiful love story. Everyone's story is different and it's always encouraging to read of ones that last....

  15. Such a sweet post! Loved seeing the photos of you and your husband at different stages of your lives.

  16. Great read, Kath and congratulations on landing such a great better half!

  17. Love when there's so much love and emotions on every face and every moment!

  18. Absolutely loved this post! Love the eay you define love, very real yet still romantic! Your husband sounds like a great guy and you look really fabulous, I would say you don´t look a year older from the day you got married! and that last picture is amazing!

  19. WOW! 30 years...what a blessing! Fabulous love story post, you two look great! The better half really sounds like a keeper, wishing you both 30 more wonderful years. <3
