Benched...

...by a germ.  Or if how I felt was any indication...germZZZZ.  So much for best laid plans.  Unsportsmanlike conduct by a germ sidelined me.  That WASN'T in the game plan!

A weekend at my Alma mater.  The Better Half's Alma mater.  Things #1 and #2's Alma mater.  Things #1.1 and #2.1's Alma mater.  Thing #3's "on the short list" of college possibilities for future Alma mater.  Pennsylvania State University.

And not just ANY weekend of the most beauuuutiful Autumn weather imaginable in State College.  But a weekend where the Penn State Nittany Lions were taking on Big10 rivals THE Ohio State (aka the bad guys).

And not just ANY football game.  But the dreaded "White Out" on national television.  Don't know what a "White Out" is?

Neither did my BFF and her Better Half.  Our "token" THE Ohio State fans.  Who flew in for the weekend packing a suitcase full of THE Ohio State scarlet where Penn State Blue and White claims home turf.  They didn't seem to think anyone would notice.  THE Ohio State should know better.

You THINK I would have been able to spot them in the stadium, wouldn't ya?!?!?  I have to apologize for that last cruddy photo.  It was taken from the television screen while prone on the sofa in my living room.  Dang stomach bug. Which was okay, because if the stomach bug hadn't gotten me nauseous, the referees surely would have!  Two overtimes.  And the official final score?

THE Ohio State  - 31
Penn State - 24

But anyone NOT wearing scarlet, and who knows the Penn State Nittany Lion is waaaaaay cooler than that  Brutus Buckeye thingy, would confidently tell ya the REAL score was...

Penn State - 24
THE Ohio State - 21
The REFS - 10

Yeah, it was one of those nights.  Benched with a bug, and bogus boys wearing the black and white.  BLECH!  But hey....I'm 5 pounds lighter now...winning!

  1. Awww-----I'm so sorry you are sick. I've battled the viral bug this week myself, but it was the respiratory type, not the stomach - thank goodness for that. If there's a silver lining=that would be it.
    Feel better soon my friend!

  4. Sorry you got sick! Sure that was a big disappointment, but the good thing about those stomach bugs is that they usually don't last very long. hope you are much better!

  8. Bummer about the bug! And the game. The refs were awful. But we counted it as a win since it was just an awesome game. And we also were debating exactly what that Buckeye thing is supposed to be? Can't all have a Nittany Lion :) We don't actually have an alumni in our family, but you can't help it when you live nearby. (and my team mascot was an 'Engineer' which they replaced with a 'Mountain Hawk' while I was attending...and our colors were brown and white...so lame.)

  9. Oh I don't follow Penn State or Ohio State or hardly any of the eastern teams, barely pay attention to the rivalry here in Utah between the U of U Utes and the BYU Cougars. They used to be in the same conference and the huge rivalry game would be the Saturday before the week of the Thanksgiving break. But Utah decided BYU was holding them back so they made a bid to the Pac12 and they made and left BYU to be independent. BYU was doing awesome the first 3 games until their star quarterback got sacked and in doing so his leg was broken completely in half. He may be done with football forever. Can you believe that level of tragedy? I went to BYU, my sister and brother did too. My brother is a prof there. But I don't have to have BYU win. I just like to see great football and right now the U is putting on a great show. Go _ _ _ _ _ _ _ team! Oh and yes! THE JACKET!!! isn't it awesome?

  12. My alma mater, Pitt, also had homecoming this past weekend. I haven't been to a game since I graduated (I'll refrain from saying how many years ago that was!). Seems bad refs were par for the course on Saturday (although I'm not sure we would have won that one even if the bad calls hadn't been made). I did learn that Pitt no longer sings "Penn State sucks" each time we score a touchdown. Not sure when they stopped doing that. So I had a game loss but no weight loss. Hope you feel better.

    1. Ahhhh, I miss the old Penn State/Pitt rivalry. I think I might still have my old "Sh*t on Pitt" pin somewhere in my jewelry box :)
