Welcome to our rent-a-mansion...

A sneak peak of our home away from home for July 5, 2014...

"Peaking into the Past"
Cairnwood Estate
Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania

Appropos that my Art History major of a Thing #2 should choose to step into the past, as she enters her future with Thing #2.1.

"Cairnwood Estate"
Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania

It was love at first sight.  Probably a bit quicker for Cairnwood Estate than it took for Thing #2.1 to win her over.

A Cliff Notes version of Cairnwood.  Constructed from 1892-1895 and designed by Thomas Hastings of the architectural firm Carrere and Hastings (in their spare time they designed a little thang called the New York Public Library).  Hastings was known as a designer of country houses for the "captains of industry" during America's "Gilded Age".  This one was a little unassuming home to the Pitcairn fam....one of those captains of industry.

Cairnwood Estate is part of the Bryn Athyn Historic District, along with Bryn Athyn Cathedral and Glencairn Museum.  Cairnwood was gifted in 1980, and remained empty for more than a decade before the building began it's restoration in 1994.

Today, it is designated as a National Historic Landmark.  And it's all OURS on July 5th.  Along with our rent-a-butlers-maids-chauffeurs-chefs-florists-musicians-photographers.  I wonder if I can rent-a-weatherman to insure sunny skies and nice temps?  I have the next best thing...a florist who guarantees it with $5 riding on the outcome.  Doesn't really matter...it's all gonna be gilded and golden regardless of the sun's RSVP.

Our little home away from home...for 12 gilded hours.

Here's where I "link up" today.

(Song-ography is on vacay til August 5th)
