Well let me tell ya a bit about "my day". It's a super-sized "my day" because I'm including 48 hours. It began innocently enough with snow, followed by some rain...
Add in some very cold temps and voila'. We were living in a Disney movie. "Frozen". Without the cute snowman who is always misplacing his butt (seriously, go see the movie!)...
The branches got heavier, and heavier until...they snapped.
...and 600,000+ households lost their power in the Philadelphia area. The second worst outage in the history of PECO (that's who we pay our astronomical heating/electrical bills to). Once you lose your power in the midst of a Polar Vortex, you are VERY willing to pay those huge bills. What does one do with 30+ hours to spend powerless? If you are moi, you spend your time huddled by the fireplace under the pretense of perfecting your camera settings in low light situations.
If you are the Better Half and Thing #1, you play cribbage by candlelight, drink wine, and allow me to further my pretensions and practice my camera settings on them! By 8:30 p.m. I had enough of being pretentious and went to bed. With LOTS of blankets.
"I always saw it coming
a little light behind the clouds
This is the start of something
my heart believes it now."
As dark and cold as the night was, by the next day the sun was so bright and the ice sparkled so much..I was smacking myself for not choosing "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" for this week's Song-ography.
"Til the sun shines and the rain falls and
in no time it all is beautiful.
This is my day."
-"My Day"
As I post this, Thing #3 has some friends sleeping over. Day #4 of no power for some of them. Just like Motel 6, "we'll leave the light on" for whomever needs it.
**********
So next week is Valentine's Day already? Yikes. Okay, in celebration let's have some fun! Can't wait to see how you take this one, twist it, turn it, do whatcha' want with it. Because NOTHING says Valentine's Day like....MEATLOAF?
"I'd Do Anything for Love (but I won't do that)"
Meatloaf

Hmmmmmm, I'm going to have to give this one some thought. In the meantime, thanks for joining in and I look forward to visiting all your blogs (now that I have power again, boo-yah!).
P.S. You can now find me on Facebook. Please hop on over to You'll Shoot Your Eye Out and give me a "like".
What a horrible storm, but you certainly got some amazing shots!
ReplyDeleteWow, beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shots! That sparkle with the blue sky - fantastic! And I love the fireplace shot!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE the pictures with the blue sky, black and white branches and gorgeous sun! Wow.
ReplyDeleteNo blue sky for us here today, but we had fun in the snow anyway!
oh my goodness...what a storm! It must have been so hard going so long without power. But looks like you made good use of your day...love the low light photos...perfect! Thank you again for hosting this fun linky party!
ReplyDeleteOk so I don't envy you the loss of power - but I would say almost worth it for the spectacular photo ops!
ReplyDeletewow i love the light. incredible
ReplyDeleteUgg on the power fiasco, but so glad you have it back! These are strikingly gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI know that was a sort of rotten 48 hours, but these images are gorgeous! Love them both in low light and bright!
ReplyDeleteHeavy snow is so stunning, but oh so dangerous and hard on the trees and power lines. I remember one particular bad winter with a massive power outage - our Thing #1 was but an infant, so it was off to the Holiday Inn for us for a week. You got some excellent low-light and even more amazingly beautiful Lucy In The Sky pictures.
ReplyDeleteOne of the few positives of this storm has been the diamond encrusted trees and blue skies afterwards....except for the fact that ice falls off our trees every time I walk out our front door, it's dangerous!! Very pretty though!
ReplyDeleteThe day after a snowstorm is always filled with blue skies and I LOVE it.
ReplyDeleteoh kathy, it's so difficult but a lil fun at the same time. and look at all the amazing images you captured. ice, it is a beautiful thing. we lost power for 7 days during super storm sandy, it was not easy BUT if i had to be stuck inside, i would like to be stuck indoors with someone like you.....who has an awesome sense of humor!!
ReplyDeletethanks for hosting and have a sunday funday!!
Your low-light practice worked. Next time, I hope it's because you just choose to turn the lights out. Cribbage. I love cribbage. I need to play a game with my Dad. He taught me when I was 8 because I wasn't doing too well in math. I'm really good at math now.
ReplyDeleteThough I hate winter and snow-when the blue sky contrasts with a fresh fall-great photos ops. You made the most.
Fantastic photography of wintry scenes and love the fireplace shot ~ thanks, carol and artmusedog ^_^
ReplyDeleteNice pictures , I love them all, great compositions !
ReplyDeleteYour photography of the storm is amazing. I don't envy the power outage, but I certainly envy your skills with the camera.
ReplyDeleteI love the white and blue, brilliant! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! We also got a snow and ice storm this weekend in Portland. But luckily we didn't lose power.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos deserving of Christmas cards!
ReplyDeleteSorry about your power loss, hope all is well now and you are back in the light!! Gorgeous captures of the snow, ice & blue blue skies!!
ReplyDeleteStunning photos - that blue sky with the snow-laden trees is breathtaking. You certainly made the best of the power outage!
ReplyDeleteSuch awesome shots. Even in with no lights.. But those blue skies look wonderful.. Stay warm my friend.
ReplyDeleteHugs~
I heard about the situation in Philadelphia in -of all places- India. You are really badly hit this year by all the snow and ice.But it makes for some wonderful pictures! Stay warn!
ReplyDeleteYou absolutely nailed the low light-I can't see a bit of noise in that fire place shot-and wow-the contrast between the sky and those tree branches are gorgeous. I can't imagine 30 hrs with no heat it electricity. Well the electricity-I can-( northridge earthquake took care of that)
ReplyDeleteMy folks lost power for about 48 hours. I love the white against the brilliant blue!!
ReplyDeleteHey Kath sorry you lost power but boy did you wake up to a beautiful sight. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteAwesome shots♪ http://lauriekazmierczak.com/love-divine-all-loves-excelling%E2%99%AA/
