Song-ography, the "Home for the Holidays" edition...

(posting early today as I'm hitting the road for a short New Year's Eve get-away. disclaimer:  vicious attack dogs and large-sized humans will still be occupying my house.)

This was a bittersweet Christmas for me.  The last Christmas where it will be just the five of us. We will increase by two next year.  Holidays will have to be shared, and traditions altered.  I am blessed our family is growing, that we love our new additions, and that my Things are happy.  I'm just not good at sharing, and will have to learn to refine that talent.  I want my Things to chase their dreams, but to always know the road that leads them home.  Especially for the holidays.

"There's no place like home for the holidays,
'cause no matter how far away you roam...

...if you want to be happy in a million ways

...for the holidays you can't beat
home sweet home."

- (no place like) Home for the Holidays

There's always a road that leads towards home.

Next week's Song-ography will be the first of 2014!  How did THAT happen?!?!!?  In keeping with the spirit of new beginnings, and 365 days laid out before us full of the unknown and unlimited possibilities, next week's Song-ography song is...

"Unwritten"
Natasha Bedingfield

Thank you for embracing Song-ography in 2013.  I hope 2014 brings you a year full of photographic challenges that push and expand your creative boundaries to new heights, and that Song-ography is one of those catalysts.  I look forward to being on the journey with you.  Happy New Year and bring on 2014!

  1. Stunning shots Kathy, really captures that tingling cold of a crisp winter's day. Hope you have a safe journey - you'll find that we have none of the white stuff over here, but quite a lot of the wet, so I hoped you packed your wellies :-)

  3. Mornin' Kathy, I absolutely love your snow covered tree photos. Awesome. I've always loved seeing he trees with snow and the contrast makes everything seem super defined. And, to get the backlighting from the sun..........whoa, that's even better. I hope you are getting ready to enjoy a wonderful new year 2014. Stay safe and Happy New Year to you and yours.

  4. Your snowy photos have blown me away! Scenes that I miss so much in Texas, and will never see here. Your lighting and captures of the trees are awesome. Hope that this "last christmas" of just your original family was wonderful, and you are so right, things are never quite the same after . They can be very good, but just different and do take alot of adjusting. Blessings and have a wonderful New year's getaway!

  9. Beautiful captures of the snow and I know it's tough to let go of those traditions...but things do change, much to a Mom's chagrin. We are having our Christmas tomorrow because everyone was scattered on Christmas day. Happy New Year's Kathy, hope all good things come to you in 2014!!

  17. your images are just gorgeous, i love the snow and these were taken at the PERFECT time, during a beautiful snow. when the snow coveres every branch, on every tree!!

i went with the other extreme.....i have shared every picture of my "home" decorated for the holidays but when i thought about it, the "jersey shore" IS my home!!

i hope you had fun in the city!!

  19. Oh my gosh you've made snow look stunningly beautiful (even to me). There was no "white" Christmas here (rarely is) but that was okay with me. I must admit today though we have frosty white stuff (frozen fog) on the ground, all the trees look very wintery here now too. - Yes, traditions come and go as family changes but I know you'll enjoy them because you just seem to be that kind of a person to me. I hope you had a fabulous time in London. Happy New Year!

  20. That is a bittersweet Christmas! Only blessings in expansion ahead, but I know you treasured this Christmas I your heart. Hope you are having an amazing time in London! My apologies for missing this week. Has two friends in serious need over the last week and it has thrown a kink in my system. Back to normal this week!

  24. Lovely photos! I know just what you mean about bittersweet. My daughter is getting married in March. Her fiance is here with us, too, and we're having a great visit. But this is the last time she will be here for Christmas morning stockings, long talks, girl time. I'm happy she's happy and we love her fiance. But like you, I'm have a hard time sharing her :) I hope you have a fabulous time on your trip!

  25. Happy 2014. Looking forward to going forward with you in the next year.
Beautiful captures of this song. Looks like a perfect (morning?) to be out with James Dean. My fave is the last-I love me that low POV. This road is very reminiscent of one here near the beach that is a muse for me over and over. It's the curves and trees-yummy.
Hope your time away is pleasant and that no one comes to visit the attack dogs and large humans at your house.
