On a clear day, I can see...

...Jersey.  Well, I can if I go to historic Washington's Crossing.  You know, where good ol' future founding father General George Washington crossed the Delaware River?  On Christmas Eve 1776?  There's a famous painting of the endeavor, so it's got to be true.

Then, I have to drive 380 feet above sea level, and climb 125 feet to the top of Bowman's  Hill Tower . Finished in 1931, the tower was built of native stone gathered from the hill and nearby stone fences and is a part of Washington Crossing historic park.

But once you make the trek and the climb...you can see for miles, and miles (the park guide said at least a 14 mile radius...but LOOKS like miles and miles)

And you realize, GOSH DARN George really didn't have all that far to paddle to cross the Delaware and surprise those dang Hessians in Trenton!

If George had just planned to be there in October, instead of December...he sure would have viewed his surroundings in briliant technicolor rather than wintry white.  And wouldn't have needed an ice pick.

(disclaimer:  I did not take this photo)

Yep, on a clear day I can see to Jersey, and I can ALMOST see history...if I climb high enough.

Here's where I'm linking up today ..."The Party's On"

Please join me on Sundays for Song-ography.
This week's song title is Kelly Clarkson's "My Life Would Suck Without You".

  4. Those photos from 'on high' were beautiful! Such magnificent fall scenery. I think the crossing was all about the weather, not the distance. :-D But that's the stuff legends are made of, isn't it?

  13. Amazing photos Kathy - admiring the perspective if your first 2 shots (and how you fit it all in the frame ) and have no words to express how picturesque and professional your 4th shot is. Renee
