Abandoned...

...that 's what happens when you take your teen-aged daughter, and two of her teen-aged friends to the shore.  Buh-bye mom.  But before you go, can I have some money?  Little did they know that this was my plan all along.  They THINK they are experiencing some independence.  And I KNOW that I am.

To get up at twilight and wander the town of Stone Harbor before it wakes up...

"96th Street Sleeping"
Stone Harbor, New Jersey

To wander the beach as it prepares for the beginning of a new day...

"On Guard"
Stone Harbor, New Jersey

With only the sounds of waves and gulls speaking to me...

"Morning Has Broken"
Stone Harbor, New Jersey

And still make it back to the hotel in time to enjoy a breakfast under the morning sun...

"Al Fresco"
Stone Harbor, New Jersey

...all BEFORE those teen-aged girls are even awake and out of their beds!  I sure hope they are having as much fun as I am.  I'll make sure to ask them they next time they need some money.

Please join me on Sundays for Song-ography.
This week's song title is Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run".

  11. My favorite thing to do is explore the morning. Where ever I am I always do an early morning walk with my camera. Us mothers have to be very sly in dealing with those wily teenagers.

  16. My favorite part of going to the beach is sneaking out early in the morning while everyone else is asleep and meandering down to the shore for a good long quiet walk (and pictures - of course, pictures). Great images.

  17. You sneaky (and clever) girl! These shots are wonderful. So love the Seagull shot and the one with the Boat, very dreamy. I'm afraid I'd still be asleep with the girls though as I'm not a morning person.

  29. Best part of the day is early morning and a walk along the Jersey shore can't be beat and that's what this native Jersey-ite thought after seeing these photos and some previous ones. I am a first time visitor who plans to return. We currently live on the VA eastern shore which when we first relocated here reminded us of NJ but not so much anymore. Love your blog title too. It reminds us of our favorite holiday movie and of course, Gene Shepard.

  35. Moms are so smart and even smarter that they let their things think they got it all worked out without having to "told you so" them later.
Your photos get better and better and better-knock it off. I can't keep up. I especially like the beach scene with boats, but the light in the bird shot pulls a close 2nd.

  41. It was only the other day that I was telling a work mate about the pleasure of reading your blog, in particular (as related to the conversation) about the images you were showing and what I was learning about your part of the world. I also made the remark about your ability to take streetscape shots. As then you go and post this first photo - this is exactly what I mean!! And I love the seagulls shot too, beautiful. Renee
