"Cape May"
Cape May, New Jersey
To Cape May. The southern most tip of the Cape May Peninsula. Where the Delaware Bay meets the great Atlantic Ocean. Where we say "going down the shore" and not "going to the beach". However, once we are THERE? Then we go to the beach. Make sense?
Where the nation's oldest seashore resort is located. It says so...on the national historic register.
Where Victorian architecture is omnipresent, and lovingly restored. Actually, it's the second largest collection of Victorian buildings in the country...right behind San Francisco. Not too shabby for a small Jersey seashore town.
Where if you didn't know better, you'd think you somehow wound up at a Disney Resort that has been meticulously modelled after a turn of the century eastern seaside resort town.
Cape May is beautiful in your photographs! It looks like a great place. You captured some lovely architecture. And I love the yellow ducks lined up in the window--funny contrast to the chandelier!
ReplyDeleteLoved the different subjects here.
ReplyDeleteWonderful place!
Such a scenic collection of architectural styles and colours. Love the detail in the 4th photo. Exquisite and beautifully preserved.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool spot to visit!!! Never been to Jersey...I'm thinking it's on my list!!!
ReplyDeleteI love Cape May. I have only been there once when my step son graduated from the Coast Guard station based there. Did you know that Cape May is home to the only Coast Guard "boot camp" in the country? There used to be another one in California but they closed it. So now every person who joins the Coast Guard has to go through Cape May.
ReplyDeleteNo, I had no idea about this! Thanks for sharing the info.
DeleteCan I please just reiterate my words in reply to your last post to your great ability for this genre of shots. Always so colourful and vibrant and meaningful. Renee.
ReplyDeleteI really want to go there...I went to Rehoboth a lot years back, and I never took the ferry to Cape May. I wish I had! Your photos are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your photos of this beautiful town - better than a tourist brochure!
ReplyDeleteAll just beautiful! Love the ducks and the chandelier ...and the old door!! I'm always so glad, when I see things like this, that there are people devoted to the preservation of places and architecture from days gone by.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite things about the shore is the beautiful hydrangeas! You just don't see the same colors at home. You had beautiful weather.
ReplyDeleteI bellieve the color of hydrangeas has to do with the alkaline vs acid in the soil. I guess that is why the shore hydrangeas are so different from what we have here.
Deleteit all so familiar to me!! you captured some of my favorites spots, beautifully!!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful ...
ReplyDeletegreat photos of Cape May! Someday I will get there;) Anyone have an idea of a font that would match the Stewart's Root Beer sign? Love it!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm....it looks like a Broadway or Marquis type of lettering to me. I do believe there is a Broadway font.
DeleteThanks Kathy! I found a couple that will work:)
DeleteOh, what a beautiful place. I see somebody has all their ducks in a row. I bet you had a great time!
ReplyDeleteVery nice photos and tour. I loved seeing the Root Beer sign. My dear brother that passed on last year LOVED Stewart's Root Beer. You are a very talented photographer. and ...I like to read your edgy text, too. Thanks for the compliments and attention.
ReplyDeleteThe colors just pop and love the little details you provide Kathy. xo
ReplyDeleteI just love these Cathy. The best places to get salt water taffy is anywhere by a coast and NOT your local supermarket!!! Some day I'll get to the east coast...some day

Makes me want to pack my suitcase....what a lovely place! And the duckies un front of the chandelier? Hilarious. And you are right about the colour of the hydrangeas- many years of trying but never succeeding in growing "just" that color!
ReplyDeleteI really want to visit this part of the USA one day... it looks so beautiful and unique

ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos!!! I love victorian architecture. I could spend days just shooting my camera there. The boys always complain about how slow I am because I want to photograph everything, so I would definitely have to go alone. Haha!
ReplyDeleteI would love it if you would share this post with us at Photog Show and Tell link party.
