"Wedding Dress Reflections #2...nope, not this one either"

Dear Thing #2,
1. Did I ever mention that MY wedding dress cost $300 and was bought off-the-rack? (are you rolling your eyes at me again?)
2. OR, that I WON my veil at a bridal show?
3. By the way, your Gramps TOLD me where my reception was going to be held...
4. ...and how many guests I was allowed
5. ...and what would be on the menu
6. And I had NO PROBLEM with that (I know, this ISN'T the mom you know at all, is it??!!??)
7. You mean it's okay to wear a different color than WHITE?
8. A belt for a wedding dress? LOVE it! It costs HOW FREAKIN' MUCH??!!??
9. I think you are right, we should hire one of these wedding shop ladies to clamp us into our clothing every morning!
10. Have I told you how much I am LOVIN' every singe nano-second of doing all of this with you? And we didn't even have one single fight....yet.
What an abso-freakin-lutely crazy week and a half. Thing #2 was home from Cincy and we kamikaz-ied her wedding plans to-do list. I mean straight up everyday we kinda went bonkers. Let me just tell ya, NOT the ideal way to plan a wedding. But when your daughter is a school teacher, and lives 9 hours away, and won't be home again for any extended period of time until Christmas....well, ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
The BEST part? Wedding dress shopping. Just moi, Thing #2, and her Thing #3-of-honor. And I am proud to say we were soooo NOT one of those wacko "Say Yes to the Dress" entourages. At least...I don't THINK we were. Of course, when you have a bride who is as easy to dress as a Barbie Doll, there really isn't any reason to give negative feedback. Yes my dear, you are cursed with a body made for showing off wedding couture (note to the Better-Half: don't be scared by the word 'couture'). I WOULD say enjoy it now before you get married, have kids, eat fast food from the drive-thru as you play taxi-driver for your future off-spring, BUT...that would just kinda ruin the surprise for her.
Thing #2 DID say yes to a dress. But that perfect frock will remain under wraps until she walks down the aisle next July. Yes, it was a memorable week of mondo proportions.

P.S. I wanted to say a THANK YOU of mamouth proportions to all who participated in my inaugural Song-ography link up yesterday. Okay, I admit I was holding my breath wondering if anyone would show up to my party. Uber nervous. By last night tho, I had a Sally Field moment "They LIKE me, they really LIKE me". So thanks again, and I hope to see you again next Sunday for Song-ography when the song title is James Taylor's "Up on the Roof".
We do - really like you! {did you read some of the complimentary things people wrote on their blogs encouraging people to come see your blog!!} My wedding experience was the same {so amazingly wonderful to do it all with my daughter...and we made it to and through the day with not fights!} yet so different. My daughter moved home and spent the last year living with us. And we hand made so much of the wedding stuff...my 'dining room' looked like a thrift shop/workshop for almost a year! Either way, it's such a gift to get to this place and be a part of helping their dream become reality!!
ReplyDeleteYES, I did read and was so very moved. It's nice to know that you have touched someone, ya know? I WISH my Thing #2 lived closer so I could have a buried dining room :).
DeleteSounds like you are both having a blast planning. Your daughter looks beautiful in both of those nope not this ones.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, we do like you!
Sometimes I miss wedding planning!! Girl I got my dress for a little over $300 & off the rack too!! Go us!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! We're in the middle of planning a wedding oh 10 weeks away! I so get the crunch thing.I cannot wait to take my 5 daughters wedding dress shopping someday
ReplyDeleteWow - It took me a year and a half to put together our wedding, so I can't imagine how busy you have been! I too bought my dress right off the rack, for $500. And I would do it all over again - I loved my dress.
ReplyDeleteThose are gorgeous!! Can't wait to see the one!!
ReplyDeleteGurl! are you kidding? Of course we like you - you're like that crazy funny cousin - only better! Your post and pictures are wonderful. My mom did not participate in picking out my dress - actually, she didn't participate too much in my wedding planning at all. Sad! I know it wasn't because she didn't love me, but apparently there was something else she had to do. At any rate -I picked a dress that I loved at the time but wouldn't wish on my daughter because it was all ruffles and poofy sleeves - a regular Southern Belle - but it was perfect for me and I had a magnificently beautiful wedding for a fraction of the cost of weddings today. (and we still had a live band with the reception at the country club) (okay, sure it was back in the day when we went barefoot and walked up hill both ways ... in snow, gas 25 cents a gallon - but still !!) :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see which one she picked! I remember when I found my wedding dress, it was also off the rack and only $400. I love the photos you took and I also really enjoyed your song-ography! I like you and your blog and I'll be back for next week's song-ography as well!
ReplyDeleteYes! Wedding dress shopping is the best! :) My dress was $ 500 and bought off the rack. :) Can't wait to see which one she picks.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! I bet the shopping was fun, though I'm sure it was exhausting too. How great that at least the dress-buying part is done!
ReplyDeleteShe looks so beautiful! You must be so proud and it must be so much fun doing all the choosing and shopping. Am looking forward to see "The dress". Loved the weekend challenge and see u again next Sunday!
ReplyDeleteSounds like quite an extraordinary week of never ending excitement!
ReplyDeleteI bought my dress in 1989 for $300 off a clearance rack and still love it. :o) I'm about to start dorm room shopping with my daughter so hopefully wedding dresses are about 10 years away. Gorgeous photos!
ReplyDeleteLove that mono pic Kathy - such a great comp. Glad you had such a great week and looking forward to participating in future Songographys!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to share this experience with your daughter. So special. Beautiful photos! Just be glad she isn't going to Kleinfeld's for her dress! ;) I have to admit to being somewhat addicted to Say Yes to the Dress.
ReplyDeleteI'll join this coming week's song-ography. I promise. I have just the right pic this time.

ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful week! Love the photos!!
ReplyDeleteFirst off it was a blast to be a part of your Song-ography and hope to participate often.
ReplyDeleteWow, wedding dress shopping. How fun. I love weddings and have a niece getting married in Sept. (on the beach) and plan to be at her wedding.
I love the color and then the black and white, the back details are beautiful in b&w
ReplyDeleteSuch a great post Kathy! I bet you're really excited! I love your sense of humor and I just heard about your new linky thing and I think I will have to join in if I can remember! I'm getting old ya know and it's hard for me anymore lol
ReplyDeleteSo Up on a Roof, I have always loved, let's see if I can still climb a ladder heeheee just kidding ! It should be interesting !
I'm glad you're sharing these wonderful things because with only a son, I'll not get to do this. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYour Song-ography party was such fun!Congratulations on a great link party first time out! Enjoy all the wedding planning. I love the black and white photo, the angle, the lace, and her reflection in the mirror. She's going to be a stunning bride.
ReplyDeleteSo funny! :D
ReplyDeleteI may have mentioned this before, but my wedding was held in Vegas in T shirts and jeans. At the courthouse! I know you are cringing right now. :)
ReplyDeleteNot cringing at all! Actually....if I had to do it all over again, who knows? :)
DeleteOh my- all the things I know are coming down the pike one day for my girls. I'm totally laughing because I know I will be the same way with them.
ReplyDeleteWho WOULDN'T LIKE YOU! Especially with such a unique and fun new idea. Haven't seen anything like it!
