Sakura Sunday...

Sakura (n) - an ornamental Cherry Blossom Tree and it's blossoms.

(also the name of a song we sang in 6th grade at
Woodlawn Elementary for a Spring concert, of which I had no freakin' idea I was singing
about Cherry blossoms until last weekend.  An "aha moment" waaay too long in the making.)

Sakura Sunday - an event; a celebration of all things Spring in the Japanese tradition.

With one little caveat...

....we are in Philly.  Fairmount Park to be exact.  Who would have thunk it?  But
whether in Japan or Philly, TWO things are the same.  Kids will be kids...

...and Japanese Cherry blossoms are beautiful in BOTH "Far East" locales.
Yes Philly is farrrrrrrrr east of many, many places.  Pittsburgh to name one.
Do you know we are about as far east as you can get and STILL be able to eat a cheese steak under
an authentic Japanese Cherry tree canopy?  Just a little factoid I thought I'd throw out there.

Pink was THE color of the day...

...even for the traditional Japanese "wiener" dog wearing a tutu.

Sayonara...

P.S.  Did a bit of "Spring Cleaning" here on the old blog, wanted to streamline a bit.  If you notice any issues with the width of my blog not fitting onto your computer screen, could ya let me know so I can correct it?   Domo Arigato.

  2. Thank you for sharing this event. Amazing catures. Your images get better and better and better. I see such growth in your work. Sakura-that was one most everyone sang. I never much liked it, but I like what it's about.
New look works well. Fits the screen. I'm doing the drugstore readers now and keep my screen on 125, so I need to just ctl- and voila! Happy day Kathy.

  4. I love your new look! Very clean and crisp. Works for me just fine.

Your blossoms are gorgeous! Great captures! It seems that most of your trees are pink while the ones in Branch Brook tend more to be white with pink mixed in. I love the little girls in kimonos! Like Newark, NJ, who would except Japanese cherry trees in Philly?

I am drawn to the shot with the fountains splashing ...

The blog update looks very nice. The edges do extend beyond my screen, but it may be my browser. I'm on my work computer, using Safari.

  12. Love the new look! The edges do extend beyond my screen a bit, so I have to slide the bar at the bottom to see it all.

  13. First, I love your little Spring cleaning here, looks great! And second, holy cow, you all have the most beautiful trees there! I did an exhange of beads on a jewelry blog hop a couple of years ago and the one thing that the girl sent me was a branch with cherry bloosoms on it made of polymer clay, I called it of course, Sakura! ;) Thanks for the little adventure!
