"Do They Know...

...It's Christmas Time At All?"
 -- Band Aid

"Peace"

Just drove home from dropping Thing #3 at school, few words were exchanged as our morning routine leaves us both a bit grumpy by time my car pulls up to the school curb and I kick her out.  Feeling a bit sorry for myself as I was driving back home, I got a much needed dose of perspective from the car stereo.  I should thank my lucky stars my reality check came courtesy of Sirius radio's Christmas programming rather than a hard life lesson of my own.  For that I am thankful.  For some reason Bob Geldof's "Do They Know It's Christmas?" resonated with me this morning.  Actually, it started taking a grip on  me last Tuesday night as I sat watching the Christmas episode of "Glee" with Thing #3 and they performed a Glee rendition of the song.

Written in 1984 by Bob Geldof after seeing a  documentary on the BBC about the famine in Ethiopia, and performed by many of the early 80's top stars of various musical genres, it raised over $14 million for African famine relief.  With all that is going on in the world today, the song is still poignant.  Luckily the message didn't go out of style as so many other 1980's trends like shoulder pads, stretch stirrup-pants (NEVER good when you are 5'8"!), and leg warmers.

It's Christmas time
There's no need to be afraid
At Christmas time
We let in light and banish shade.

And in our world of plenty
We can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world
at Christmas time.

Peace Out,

--Kathy

  8. I HEAR YOU KATHY. I feel for all the troubles of the world but when it comes to children and basic needs not being met, it kills me. That I just had breakfast and some child has not. We are so fortunate. I hope our children truly understand that.
That is a stunning photo Kathy. You took so many amazing ones this holiday season, but this one is my favorite.
