There's just ONE little problem...

I have been getting bugged encouraged to start sharing my photography a bit more, and stop hogging it all to myself.  I guess the Better Half thinks hiding all my photos in file folders via iPhoto isn't maximizing their exposure.  In political speak he wants me to "share the wealth" a bit more.  In the past, I have gotten talked into displaying some photos in a local store and in a art show, but quite honestly...I just don't feel comfortable hawking my stuff.  They are my babies.  Each one has a story and place in my heart.  I don't like hearing random passers-by weighing in on their opinion of each photo.  Who asked them anyway?  Not moi.  Not sure if they knew I was the photographer standing within ear shot who's feelings they were hurting.  But suffice it to say...I use too much moisturizer to prohibit the thick skin I need to develop for that type of exposure.

But October 26th was "Philly Photo Day".  Kinda cool.  Sponsored by the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center, the event was aimed to invite anyone in the city to take a photo of whatever grabs ya.  This event culminates in an exhibit revolving around "A Day in the Life" Philly-style.  Plus, a select few photos will grace billboards and Septa buses and trains for a whole month.  Very cool, and def more exposure than my iPhoto file folders.  I decided to give it a go.

The rules are:

1.  Photo MUST be taken on October 26th

2.  Photo MUST be taken within the city limits of Philly

3.  Only ONE photo can be submitted.

I decided to head down to Boathouse Row in Philly to see what I could find.  And I found quite a bit.  I WILL be posting, after I edit the photos, of my few hours on Boathouse Row.  But in the meantime, I kinda started crushin' on two photos I took that day.  Hmmmm...which one to pick?  I just can't decide. What do you think??????  Seriously, I'd love your opinion...just be kind 'cause I'm still working on that tough skin thingy.

Not that it matters which one I actually choose because...there's just ONE little problem.  Philly Photo Day was October 26th....apparently I'm a moron 'cause I went out on October 27th!!!!!!  There IS a difference, right?  Well, my intentions were good.  My timing...fashionably late as usual.  Oh heck,  maybe I'll just go ahead and submit a photo anyway and let THEM disqualify it.  So my question still stands...which one do ya think I should try to slip past the judges??????

  4. Okay...how is this for you. I like the first one best...and my son (who stands over my shoulder as I read blogs or e-mails) is saying he likes the second one. So, you get two votes for the price of one. :)

  5. We 'shoot ourselves in the foot' at times ~ I do anyway ~ Your photography is fantastic ~ wishing you bravery to 'put them out for the world to see' ~ you deserve it and so does the world ~ My first choice would be the first ~ I love them both though ~ (A Creative Harbor) artmusedog and Carol ^_^

  6. WOW, that is a hard decision. I really do love both of them. But if I had a gun to my head and said I had to chose I think I would chose the first one. And I really don't know why. They are both great.

    Hugs~

  7. Are you KIDDING me?! You should be out selling your stuff...those are both gorgeous! In my opinion, they need to bend the rules to include a photo from the 27th; yours, of course! I'd chose the first one. There's something about its deceptive simplicity and the composition that speaks to me. I think it would work best for displaying on billboards or buses. The second one has so much detail that would get lost, I think. Also, my eye needs something of interest in the blank space on the right in that one. Although it IS stunning, don't get me wrong :)

  9. I LOVE both...and I think you should STILL submit it regardless of their silly rules!
It is very tough to decide but I think the first one, Kathy...I can't tell you why... but it is a visceral thing...
And OMG, are you telling me that you are not already selling your stuff??? You could be (I don't like that word 'should')

  18. I think you should hop skip down to your photo store with a cd of the photos of your town you've taken over the last year, convert it to a photobook then casually leave the book around the display area of the competition with order forms inside. You'd be hearing from people for sure. I really like your first one - forgive my lack of camera technical speak but I like how the leaves match the colours of the rowers outfits, how the focus is on the left, that the only colours are the oranges and reds, that the rowers are in natural positions eg looking in different directions even though they're doing the same thing, and the overall mood of the scene.

  19. Sounds like a very fun event! I like the depth of field of the first shot, but the light in the second is stunning. What a hard choice! Thank you for sharing and for linking up with Tones on Tuesday!
