The sound of a waterfall...

"When I was walking in the mountains with the Japanese man and began to hear the water,
he said, 'What is the sound of the waterfall?'
'Silence,' he finally told me."

-Jack Gilbert, Collected Poems

"Silence"
Wykoff Run
Cameron County, Pennsylvania

No, I was not walking int he mountains with a Japanese man.  But I was driving through them with the Better Half in North central Pennsylvania. Where the deer outnumber the humans (or so I've been told).  Where the only elk herd east of the Mississippi River reside (again...so I've been told). The Better Half apparently does a lot of "telling" when it comes to where he grew up, his stomping grounds.  And he knew exactly where this little waterfall was, so he pulled off the road and I grabbed my camera (or...so I was told to do).  Glad I listened.  To both the Better Half AND the silence.
