pro-cras-ti-na-tion (noun)
1. the act or habit of putting off or delaying
2. Thing #3
Thing #3 has a talent for procrastination. So great is her talent, it is elevated to an art form. Which naturally took us to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Yes, I would have liked to hang her on a wall so the masses could admire her superb delay tactics. Instead we were there, only a couple of DAYS prior to high school graduation, because of these words...
"The Procrastinator"
(totally kidding!)
"Oh by the way Mom, I need one more 'cultural field trip' in order to graduate."
"The Procrastinator"
(totally kidding!)
Never mind how long she had this information. Never mind the onslaught of end-of-the-senior-year "to do's" already sucking the hours out of my days. Never mind my first thought was "It's gonna be hard dragging a dead body somewhere CULTURAL!" Immediately followed by..."Can we just LIE?!?". Yeah, sometimes a mom morphs into a teenager. And sometimes, a teenager morphs into her mom...."NO MOM! I need to go the Art Museum!"
"Through the Looking Glass"
(Could be!)
"MWAH!"
(yeah, totally kidding about that too)
"Mystic Truths"
"The Real Procrastinator"
Philadelphia Museum of Art

"Through the Looking Glass"
(Could be!)
And just to reinforce the fact that there are ramifications for your actions (or lack thereof), I threw in the 'coup de grace'...
"I'm taking my CAMERA and you are NOT allowed to complain about it while you get yourself CULTURED!"
"MWAH!"
(yeah, totally kidding about that too)
Even procrastination can be a winning situation. I got to take photographs without ANY complaints, and KNOWING that it was just killing her to do so.
And in return, Thing #3 got to...

...be my model. Oh yeah, and GRADUATE! Sometimes I swear if it weren't for the last minute, nothing in my life would get done. Not to mention I wouldn't have a blog post.
Here's where I "link up" today
My son often tells me that, "except for dad....Procrastination should be the middle name of everyone in our family." {I'll have to remember the 'don't get to complain about my camera thing when I'm being talked into something!} Love so many of these - you caught the sense of the whole and gave attention to details too! It's been far too long since I've been to this museum!
ReplyDeleteMy first trip to the museum when I was ten, turned me on to art, and I have been painting every since.
ReplyDeleteProcrastination is a "no sweat" word where I come from - you do what you gotto do. Period.
Kathy, I hope you got an extra hug for that one.
ReplyDeleteSo did she reeeaaaallly need it or just want to go to the museum?
ReplyDeleteOnly if she wanted to graduate!
DeleteTeenagers can procrastinate like no other. After one especially 'close-call 11th hour, in the nick-of-time' task with Allyson, I actually shame-photoed her with a sign vowing she would never procrastinate again. It didn't stop her, but did humor me. As parents, sometimes we have to take a 'win' where we can get it - even if it is at the expense of our kid(s).
ReplyDeleteSometimes it is especially sweet when it is at the expense of our Things! haha.
DeleteWell, in this case procrastination paid off. My son is the total opposite which is very refreshing. My first was the procrastinator of the family, but now her husband gets those joys and I can laugh and say, "I know."
ReplyDeleteGot a good chuckle out of this, although usually I'm the procrastinator in the family!
ReplyDeleteI'm about to jump on a plane to philly. I love that museum. No art museum will ever measure to my love of this museum. You had me at those steps, oh those steps!
ReplyDeleteHow did you get the steps so empty? Every time I go there, I swear it's a sea of people. I love these pictures. And I love this art museum. It's been one of my favorite places since a field trip in grade school. Something about the smell and those griffin clips I will never forget. (Just read that they actually changed the griffin clips. I think part of me just died a little.) Love the story of your teen, as well. Sounds exactly like something my son would do. At least you have culture all over to chose from!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, right?!?!?!? I had to wait for the perfect moment...and when that finally happened, a few people were about to go up the stairs but saw me standing there with my camera and were kind enough to wait. Apparently Tuesday early afternoons are a "low traffic" time...with kind people, haha.
DeleteThis is such a funny story. My friends have similar stories about as many situations as you can imagine. But, on the positive, your photos are great. Now, I want to go to an art museum!
ReplyDeleteYours was a very enjoyable blog post to read. I also liked seeing your camera's take on the art work. I would be #4 under the definition. It's caught up with me today. But, I shall prevail, moan, get the work done, and procrastinate on something else.
ReplyDeleteTake 25 to Hollister
Ooooooh! What a great trip, even if it was procrastinated. Having raised 3 teens and also retired from art teaching, I do love this post. Plus, the color red.
ReplyDeleteIf I hadn't read the book 'Before your teenager drives you crazy, read this' I never would have understood this kind of behavior. But to find out that they are actually brain damaged before they mature makes so much sense! So glad your girl gets to graduate!
ReplyDeleteAhh graduation, along with a nice trip with no complaints to a beautiful museum. I can identify, I am one of the world's best at procrastinating.
ReplyDeleteMade me laugh ! Thanks for that.
ReplyDeleteThis totally made me laugh and made me think of my own daughter when she graduated a long time ago. First thing you know she will be off at school and will then learn more about being on time. Your shots are a great bonus though for the day!
ReplyDeleteHah! I love this blog post! You even managed to turn your daughter into a work of art at the end there :) Great photographs. I'd love to visit this museum! Thanks for linking up with #WeekendWanderlust!
ReplyDeleteLol! I think we've all had at least 1 thing #3 in our families! Love that she took you to the point that you were willing to lie. You raised her right mom, when she said, 'NO'! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
I'm dying at her oh BTW statement! I think you found a great retaliation in your camera and silence agreement. These are awesome shots!
ReplyDeleteWhile I do love me some procrastination, I don't know that I have ever cut it quite that close...although I do have to admit to not sleeping for almost a week before my dissertation was due because I had put it off for so long (I had to get a semester's extension *sigh*).
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining us for Photo Friday again! I appreciate the support!
