"Sometimes you need to sit lonely on the floor in a quiet room
in order to hear your own voice
and not let it drown in the noise of others."
- Charlotte Eriksson
"Memories Hanging Around"
Still Life
Still Life
(bouquet's from Thing #2's wedding last summer)
Sometimes that floor in a quiet room is...the basement. While in search of 'stuff'. Stuff to photograph. Props. For an online photography course on Still Life.
Sometimes the desire to "be still" is kinda hard to accommodate. The business AND the busy-ness of life have other plans. It's tough to hear your own voice when the noise of others can take center stage if we allow it. And we usually do. It can mute creativity. And creativity is key to keeping moi happy. Totally gives me sense of accomplishment. A good 'ole pat on the back.
How to give myself, and my creativity, a little love each week? I had grand plans this weekend. The Better Half and Thing #3 were outta here for the weekend. A college music audition, and the Better Half's willingness to volunteer for parental duty took care of that. But, Mother Nature had plans to place me under house arrest. She raised a bit of her own noise. So the plans morphed a bit...
quiet the noise, find a space, focus on what's in front of me
Which lead me to the basement in search of "what's in front of me" to create a Still Life in photograph. I had all intent and purpose to bring "what's in front of me" upstairs and into the light. But sometimes, "what's right in front of you" is kinda perfect just where it is.
You just have to be still and clear out the noise in order to notice it.
Be still.

What a perfect post, Kathy...and one of my favorite ways to spend a day.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous - what amazing lighting!
ReplyDeletefantastic photo hun
ReplyDeleteLove the mood of the photo and the reflective words to go with it. #mysundayphoto
ReplyDeleteSo great to have some alone time, isn't it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous photo, Kathy! I love the two of them hanging there, preserved, and I love the symbolism behind the photo - the preservation of those memories.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining us again this week at #PhotoFridayFun!

You are so right, what is right in front of you is often just what you need

This really speaks to me - the noise quieting bit, for sure. But also the really like that your still life isn't posed - not that there's anything wrong with that. But this speaks to me more. The light is fantastic, and catching those bouquets just as they are ...well, I love that!
ReplyDeleteThanks Adrienne. Although I admire Still Lifes that are purposely set up, I am finding that just isn't the way my mind works. I've done some that way...but I enjoy finding "Naturally occurring" still life more in my wheel house and therefore more satisfying.
DeleteThis post hit me right where I needed it. I have been thinking of needing quiet and calm, but I've been doing little to bring it about. I really have to make an effort. But I need it, like you, to be at my creative best and to feel content.
ReplyDeleteThe need for calm and quiet in my life is a MUST. I LOVE the crop/comp on this. Beautiful words Kathy.
ReplyDelete"...perfect right where it is." This photo is proof of that! What I call "found still life" is my favorite kind.
ReplyDelete"Found Still Life"...I like that! The perfect name for it.
DeleteBeautiful picture. I love the way you have framed it. Are you specially drying out the bouquets? I had fake flowers for my wedding so I could keep them forever, however they gather a lot of dust.
ReplyDeleteA most wonderful capture of these memory filled bouquets. I adore still lifes - but I don't have the patience.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post, very beautiful
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking up
What a great photo! I still have a wedding boquet from last August hanging in my office too.

so beautiful! the light is perfect :) and i love the quote too!
ReplyDeleteA peaceful atmosphere in this photo!
ReplyDeletePerfection!
ReplyDeleteThis is a peaceful photo! Perfect. My favorite hiding spot to be still & reflect is in my walk-in closet. After 8yrs of living in our house none of my crew has found my hiding spot yet. And, that's fine by me. :)
ReplyDeleteSimplistic beauty! Hubby always love having music playing whenever he does something. As much as I love music sometimes I love the silence. I often have just silence during the day as I go about doing my daily tasks and I love it! Often I have a song in my head or heart, but Silence is Golden! lol! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
Beautifully done.
