Song-ography, the 'Upside Down' edition...

So here's the thing...

"Who's to say I can't do everything?"

Like, taking a photo of this tree.  I've been doing it for almost a year now.  Sort of "a year in the life of a tree" project (catchy title, right?!?!?).

"Well, I can try, and as I roll along I begin to find
Things aren't always what they seem...

Like, I'm not allowed?  At least that is what the security guy in his car with the flashing yellow light told me the other day.  An octogenarian wearing a cute hat, who takes his job waaaaaay too seriously, I might add (with all due respect, of course).

"A Year in the Life - Winter"

"I want to turn the whole thing upside down
I'll find the the things they say just can't be found...

Like, I told him I've been taking a photo of this tree for months now.  I told him we have a close and personal relationship.  I told him the tree is perfectly fine with my presence.  And...what about all those joggers running by?  They are my age (mature-ish)...so they aren't running TOO fast. They should be very easy to nab, security man.   There is a Starbucks right up the street, I'm sure they will be making a pit stop there if they are too speedy for you and your flashing yellow light (and cute hat).

"A Year in the Life - Fall Fog"

"I'll share this love I find with everyone
We'll sing and dance to Mother Nature's song...

Like...I knew better.  I grew up with a parental unit JUST LIKE THIS (yeah dad, I know YOU know I'm talkin' 'bout YOU!).  There's no arguing with stubborn.  And speaking of stubborn, there is no better motivation than being told "You can't do that!".  Afterall, I come by MY "stubborn" honestly.

I got back into my car, and in my best Arnold Schwarzenegger I told him...

"I'll be back."
-Moi

"A Year in the Life - Spring (Boo-yah!)"
Ambler, Pennsylvania

"Is this how it's supposed to be?"
-Upside Down (Jack Johnson)

And I did.  Because that is just NOT how it's suppose to be.  Mission accomplished.

Next week's song was suggested by one of our regular Song-ography participants....Molly at "The 365 Project"!  I think there are lots of possibilities and directions your can take this song in interpretation and creativity.  So thanks Molly for suggesting...

"100 Years"
Five for Fighting

I owe an apology to those who I didn't get a chance to leave a comment last week when I visited your blogs.  It doesn't happen often, but it did this past weekend.  I was in the midst of family and travel.  Time was short.  Something had to give.  I'm sorry it was some of you!  Thanks for putting up with me.  And thank you for continuing to participate here on Sunday's with Song-ography.  I WILL be back (said in my best Arnold Schwarzenegger voice) AND commenting on ALL your blogs this week.

P.S.  You can now find me on Facebook and Twitter.

  1. Lovely pictures of the tree in all seasons! And I am pretty sure he was very flattered by your presence and posing as a model! And to your encounter with " stubborn": " The world keeps spinning and there is no time to waste" on people who have no imagination. Have a great Sunday.

  4. My hill with trees that graced the header on my blog for years; photographed in each season, over several years - and bam! someone had the audacity to build a "spec house" cutting off my usual point of photographic view. Cue, stage left - time to get a new header. For the record, the house still sits empty (I may or maynot have put a curse on it when it went under construction). I so 'get' the tree thing (have done the same with a tree across from the house photographed since it was a seedling). These are great images and it is always a mix of amusement and annoyance with the power rush some people get with a little badge, set of flashers, and 'cute hat'.

As for next week's song - you could not have selected better since it is my son's graduating class song - the weekend of his graduation.

  5. You rebel! I can't wrap my head around not being allowed to take a picture of a tree. I'm sure he had his reasons, but yours are better. I'm always afraid I'm going to get in trouble doing sessions around the public.

  9. You are such a stitch ... and your photography is really wonderful. I wish you could show your Octogenarian these pictures ... I bet you would see him blushing under his cute hat. Wonderful post, Kathy.

  10. Seriously? Is this tree located on some protected property of some sort. I can't imagine why you would be told you couldn't take a picture of it I know if we stop anywhere on the road located near the State Penitentiary here you'll get security within a heartbeat telling you to "move along." but this I can't understand.

I'm happy you went back and hope you continue to do so as your shots of this tree are just wonderful.

  11. Hmmm, sounds like this guy takes his position too seriously. Honestly! I'm sure you don't look a bit threatening to his community's security. Maybe the Keebler Elves live in that tree, who knows! Anyway, it's a great series. You've made that little tree famous. :)

  13. I always wanted to find a tree that made me want to take pictures of it year round. I found the tree(s), but usually the surroundings were less than desirable. Your tree is lovely. I especially like the foggy fall photo

  18. Can't believe he said you couldn't photograph the tree. That's just silly. I do love Song-ography, but my life is in that something's gotta give mode too. I do hope I can find time to join in again this week.
