I will never understand...

...well, actually a LOT!  But to narrow it down just a wee bit, there's beau coup that enters one ear and exits the other without stopping to say hello, about wedding planning.  Since that was what last week was all about for moi, it's become abundantly apparent that I've seriously underestimated,  miscalculated, and have been completely gobsmacked about mega amounts of all things marital in the making.

1.  How is it possible that wedding invitations cost 70 cents to mail, plus 49 cents for the RSVP.  That means I am paying $1.19 so that someone can tell me they will let me pay for a steak dinner for them at the reception.

2. I find it completely idiotic that "snail mail" is rapidly approaching extinction as most use social media, texts and emails for correspondence.  Yet we MAIL "save the dates" and "wedding invitations".  I fully expect to be texting and emailing people a few weeks before the wedding to tell guests they should look in their mailboxes because I need an RSVP.  (**altho I don't understand it, I would have it no other way)

3.  Flowers.  I don't understand, but am so happy that they apparently have magical powers over  me.  I think the wedding florist is happy about that too.

4.  Wedding dresses.  I apologize to Thing #2 for the number of times I've told her "MY dress cost $300.00 and I bought it off the rack at the ONLY store I went to".  In the grand scheme of things, Thing #2 apparently went "cheap" in this category.  There were many waaaaay more expensive dresses she could have said "yes" to...before I said "no".

5.  I will never understand the trend of "trashing the dress".  I mean, if someone spills red wine on you at the reception..that's one thing.  But to purposely destroy your "say yes to the dress"?  Warning to Thing #2...you will have to trash your dress AFTER you dispose of my dead body draped over it.  Thankfully, this isn't an issue...I don't think.

6.  I do not know how the HomeGoods Store knows EXACTLY what I need for the wedding, before I even realize I need it!

7.  I'm pretty sure the Better Half is kinda gobsmacked about that too, and is contemplating putting a tracking device on my car.

8. I'm baffled by how tiring and exhausting spending money can be.  I thought I was in pretty good "spending" shape.

9.  It always surprises me how one day at home, in my jeans, sans make-up and contacts, can rejuvenate me.

10.  I am constantly amazed and awed, by how much I love this girl and how much I want to make her happy.  I'm sure she doesn't understand it.  But someday when she is a mom...she will.

Here's where I "link up" today.

Please join me on Sundays for Song-ography.
This week's song title is Cat Stevens' "Morning Has Broken".

  1. So much going on in your life! My sister scored her dress for 300 dollar - I fear for when I buy mine one day I will hear "Avi's only cost..."

    Thanks for linking, up! (-:

  2. She will understand and I am guessing she has an understanding now and it shows. What fun and frustration weddings are ... I can still remember my father saying "Is that really necessary?" Oh yes, it all is and then it is over in a flash and you are left standing, watching the newly weds drive away and wondering "What just happened?" It all doesn't really sink in until later ... later maybe when the grandchildren come to visit. Enjoy, enjoy Kathy ... you have no control over it anyway :)

  3. I don't understand the vast amounts of money people spend on weddings and receptions. Good thing I only have one daughter and she is already married as of 17 years ago because these expensive wedding trends are something I will NEVER understand. Just write the couple a check to go towards a down payment on a home, or pay some of their college debt off for them... practicality seems to have gone out the window this century. LOL

  5. #10......I loved my year as MOB! My daughter and I have such great memories, and there's no feeling quite the same as wanting them to have that special day of their dreams!

  6. Trashing the wedding dress? Really? Never heard of that "tradition".

  7. Wow, that does sound exhausting. But, as we all know it's the good kind of exhaustion, isn't it?

  8. You are so funny, even in your state of exhaustion. What a celebration this will be! Had to chuckle about you having to text people for their RSVP. That is probably so stinking true!

  9. I don't get the trashing of the dress either. It all sounds so exciting, fun, expensive & exhausting!! I love old fashioned snail mail and if that ever changes for wedding invites I'll be sad!

  13. Oh wow - I am, how did you put it, "underestimated, miscalculated, and completely gobsmacked" by this whole get your kid out of high school / into college / and out of college. Marriage - not allowed to cross either of my children's lips for a long time. oy!

  14. I'm like others and am astounded by the money/energy/time devoted to wedding celebrations. I do have one daughter, who, thankfully, is in no hurry to marry. I'll help her with all the craziness if and when it's time. Loved your take on this prompt!

  15. This made me smile. My husband and I were just talking about the number of weddings we'll have (and whether or not we'd be getting another one)--as he started to come up with the cheap alternatives...the fire hall, pig roast, and other red neck options. I had to laugh--No way! Unless that's what they want, I guess. Plus, our youngest girl will probably save us the trouble by going to Vegas...maybe more than once ;) Looks and sounds like it is going to be beautiful!!

  16. Let me add one more thing to your hysterical list. When the guests don't return the RSVP cards that you've spent all this money on, and you have to start calling them to see if you can buy them a steak dinner! It's a wonderful time, enjoy the ride. The mob and fob need a honeymoon more than the bride and groom do!!

  17. Pretty sure I'm glad I only have one son when I think about weddings. That shopping could pretty much kill me.

  18. I'm dying to see thing #2 in that dress - and I haven't heard of "trashing the dress" - you're one busy gal!

  19. Completely agree with the "trashing the dress" thing! My SIL just got married last August and she wants to destroy it! I mean really?! She paid like $800 or something for that dress, I mean sell it or like my mom did, save it for your kids to play with. I loved trying it on when I was little. Great list! Happy Friday!
