Let me introduce myself. I'm apparently the last person in the Northeast to know a monster is returning, beginning tomorrow. The "Return of the Polar Vortex". I had no idea. Not that it would make any difference. It's coming again regardless of an invitation from moi. And quite honestly...haven't we had cold weather like this before? It's not usual...but it isn't all that UN-usual...is it? I don't remember it having a scary name like POLAR VORTEX before. I just always called it "unfreakin'believably COLD"!
Weekends just aren't made for the Weather Channel as far as I'm concerned. Weekends are made for ignorance and bliss, and warmth of family, friends and...coffee. Actually, everyday is made for that in my book. I can only get away with it on the weekends.
It's also made for finally taking down the last of the Christmas decorations. I accomplished this right before the "White Trash Deadline" of leaving my stuff up too long and annoying the neighbors. Well, almost. There IS this one...
I COULD tell ya that I left it up because snow doesn't magically end when Christmas is done.
Truth is...I forgot to look UP. Completely missed it. Just like the weather reports. So out it stays til the spring thaw, post Polar Vortex the sequel. I'm kinda done with traipsing up and down the stairs to the basement. I'm just going to call it a happy decorating accident.
Just like I'm gonna call this alleged Polar Vortex "Hey! It's winter in the Northeast moron...waddaya expect?!?!". But I AM glad I finally got let in on the secret...at least I ran out and got some more coffee. Weekends are made for that too!
Stay warm!
Here's where I'm linking up today ..."The Party's On"
Please join me on Sundays for Song-ography.
This week's song title is Idina Menzel's "Let It Go".
Especially beautiful photos of the ice.
ReplyDeleteThe ice is everywhere up here too - and it's time to hunker down...more of the white stuff along with the deep freeze! I like each of your shots for different reasons. The first one has that winter blue, day after the storm sky. And the ice on the branches in both is gorgeous! Love the change of perspective on the ornament in your window - it's a pretty one, and totally goes with the current season! Great choice of mug, and perfect choice on the black and white processing of the last shot!
ReplyDeleteI know, right? Hello - it's January, we live in the north/northeast………..it's not the tropics babeeeee!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos of the ice on the branches! I left out a snowpeople lighted decoration after Christmas--I figured it was a WINTER decoration, so it was OK. :-) We're actually looking to get some snow out of this one, so I'm excited!
ReplyDeleteThe ice on those branches is stunning!
ReplyDeleteSorry about your polar vortex coming.... Last year in Texas, we had a THUNDERSNOW. Not sure where they get these names from, but someone is hired to make them up I think. Great shots, and love your coffee cup. Don't feel too bad... I just finished with the last box of christmas stuff, and it is only the 21 of jan. Never before had this stuff up so long....; but oh well. Hope you have a great week, and hope your weather doesn't get too bad. It was 70 degrees here in texas today. But... supposed to get cold again.
ReplyDeletewell, that last one isn't so bad that you forgot it. there's still snow, so it's ok.
ReplyDeletewe are headed into another polar vortex this week!!! i don't mind, as long as NO SNOW STORM!!
Wooww amazing photographs :D
ReplyDeleteits super sunny here in Sydney.
It's the old Canadian Clipper renamed Polar Vortex so it sounds more ominous. The global warming people and those that think the poles are going to shift needed a different name but it's technically still the same (I believe). The last time we had a winter this harsh here was in 2006 when one night was -17 degrees and we locked ourselves out of the house. Brrrrrrr! I can never forget that night. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous shots! Keep warm.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard from over this side of the world to picture you walking outside to capture those first two (amazing) shots. Renee
ReplyDeleteOur weather reporters fake us out so often that I was skeptical...but now it appears we have LOTS of snow coming. I'm not ready, either! I LOVE your London mug shot. Stay warm, Kathy - and caffeinated! :)
ReplyDeleteIf only the beauty of icy photos, such as yours, would transfer to warm and cozy feelings when outdoors, winters would be the perfect season! Lovin' that ornament!
ReplyDeleteOh, Kathy, these are gorgeous! Wow! Maybe if I get a snow day tomorrow, I'll try to take some artsy snow pics, you've inspired me!
ReplyDeleteYour ice coated tress are gorgeous, beautiful bokeh!
ReplyDeleteJust so you don't feel alone, the snowstorm snuck up on me, too - and I'm a TEACHER - we should be aware of possible snow days! SO I was at Acme this morning with about a million other people. Gotta get the bread and milk. Stunning ice photos - love the drip and starburst on the first one - amazing. Love the texture of your sweater in the mug shot - hope that's the only type of mug shot you are ever in! (nice manicure, btw)
ReplyDeleteThe icy branches are gorgeous! I don't know why winter seems to come as a surprise to everyone. It's the same every year.
ReplyDeleteMy snowmen stay out until the first of March - vortex or no vortex (or as we call it in the mid-atlantic - winter!). Nice snow ornament, seriously awesome ice-shots, neat cup - and check out that manicure (color me jealous!).
ReplyDeleteLove the mug, and I can only wish of some ice draped branches . . . all I get is dew!
ReplyDeleteis that what polar vortex is. you're the second last to know.
ReplyDeletegood time to stay inside and how the power grid doesn't crash.
You make the Polar Vortex look so pretty. Send some snow out west. We are bone dry here in Caif--so sad!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images of the ice covered little branches…Stay warm and inside…drink more coffee …and wait until the Polar thing will move East! Will let you know if it ever makes it all the way to Switzerland!
ReplyDeleteI like your attitude and your trees blooming with icicles and leaving a snowflake up? Why not?, as long as it pleases you. I have a crystal snowflake hanging in my window all year round and thoroughly enjoy the occasional rainbows I get.
ReplyDeleteWowza on the images. Wowza. First one is like A ++ while the rest are A+. You are a rock star.
ReplyDeleteI call the weather men/women "weather terrorists". The premier weather terrorists work for the weather channel, but they are totally at the local level as well. Polor Vortex. Friend of El Nino I'm guessing. These WT LOVE a storm, hurricane, twister, thunder and lighting. One can practically see them drooling. And WHEN did it become necessary to name snow storms and blizzard. Is not "Blizzard of 2014" enough? Egad.
PS I'm white trashing only the little spray beside my front door. Expiration date on that is Feb 1st. Sorry to miss last week's Songography. Just too flippin' busy. I'm down for this coming Sunday though. Happy day Kathy. Hope you don't have to shovel too much.
Lmao!!! "White trash deadline??"" Lmao. You are so dang funny!!! But your photos? Anything but!!! Just wow!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. I think your forgotten decoration is quite appropriate all winter long. I have to say, we've been at -20 twice this winter, and I've never seen that before in my fifteen winters on the farm. I'm ready for spring.
ReplyDeleteCoffee in a London mug, how perfect. I hope it was Wawa coffee, the BEST coffee ever!
ReplyDeleteMollyxxx
Adore the ice on branches pics. I want that coffee mug...so freaking nice! Speaking of extremely cold, I wish I could order a cup of warmth on speed dial.
ReplyDeletei LOVE your blog name! and great photos of the ice!
