I do like words. But sometimes, more can be spoken without them...with a visual, an image. It's one of the many reasons I love photography. It doesn't need words. It doesn't need to be explained. It can be as simple as evoking the power of an emotion. Which often lasts longer and is more powerful than the written word. Two different forms of communication. Images and visuals are probably the more natural of the two. They came first. After all....you probably picked up a crayon before you picked up a book to read.
"You can be amazing, you can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug.
You can be the outcast, or be the backlash of somebody's lack of love.
Or you can start speaking up, nothing's gonna hurt you the way that words do...

...but I wonder what would happen if you
Say what you wanna say, and let the words fall out.
Honestly, I wanna see you be brave."

I will be posting more photos later in the week of visual arts filled Brick Lane, in East London.

In the spirit of it being January 12th and I STILL have the vast majority of my Christmas decorations up...next week's Song-ography title is...
Bruno Mars
"The Lazy Song"...hmmmmm...I think I should still be able to stop by everyone's blogs to pay a visit while laying around on my couch. Hope I don't strain myself tho.
P.S. You can now find me on Facebook. Please hop on over to You'll Shoot Your Eye Out and give me a "like".
I totally agree and have often heard that the best photographs need no explanation. This is cool street art, and it is a powerful image. I love how you capture, both in word and in image. You are gifted doubly.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shot of a fantastic piece of "street" art! One of the things I've grown to love about blogging is the marriage of photos and words. It's great when shot stands on its own. And words stand alone. And, yet, together....even more powerful!! Thanks again for hosting!!
ReplyDeleteVery dramatic mural. Nice find.

Hello! I so enjoyed visiting your city! This photo was taken on Brick Lane in East London. I do believe it is right past a brewery of some sort, that divides the street between Bangladesh/Indian fare and the vintage clothing end! You should check it out. It has some amaaaaaaazing street art! I will be posting more later this week :)
DeleteWow - cool shot. I love how you framed it with the street on the left and the building on the right. It adds a sense of place, scale, texture and a pop of color. Another amazing job. Perfect shot for this song! At first I assumed you took this somewhere in Philly - we have so many murals. Apparently we have something in common with East London :) I hope to get to London some day. Your photos are inspiring me to make it sooner rather than later!
ReplyDeleteAmazing image - as always. You blow me away every week!
