And here I thought I was sooooo smart when I chose "Born to Run" as this week's Song-ography prompt. "It's a death trap, it's a suicide rap", man this was harder than I thought it was gonna be. Bruce I love ya, but you're killing me buddy. Luckily, I headed back down to the Jersey Shore for a couple of days last week. A girl's gotta do what she's gotta do to channel her inner Bruce, and some inspiration.
"In the day we sweat it out on the streets of a runaway American dream...
"Runaway American Dream"
Jersey Shore
I-phone
...at night we ride through the mansions of glory in suicide machines.
Sprung from cages out on highway 9,
Chrome wheeled, fuel injected, and steppin' out over the line.
"Jersey Bound"
Philadelphia, PA
Girls comb their hair in rear view mirrors
and the boys try to look so hard,
the amusement park rises bold and stark...
"Ferris Wheel in Motion"
Wildwood, New Jersey
...kids are huddled on the beach in a mist
"Beach Mist"
Stone Harbor, New Jersey
Someday girl, I don't know when
we're gonna get to that place
where we really want to go
and we'll walk in the sun.
But till then tramps like us, baby we were born to run."
"Born to Run"
Stone Harbor, New Jersey
Where DID the summer go? Middle of August. I'm already starting to seriously eye the boots and sweaters in my closet. One of the things I do love about living where I do is that we truly get to experience the change of seasons. So before summer is out the door, and football fall is here...let's give Song-ography one last summer hurrah with next week's song title by ol' Blue Eyes himself...
"The Summer Wind"
Frank Sinatra
Why is it when I listen to this song I feel as if I should be drinking a martini and sashaying around the house? A house in Palm Springs. Yet here I am in Philly, drinking a diet peach Snapple. Snapple Cap Fact: You can lead a cow upstairs, but not downstairs. You just don't acquire that kind of knowledge with a martini.
Can't wait to see what you came up with for "Born to Run". Thanks for joining in!

Yeah - he sings some tough stuff to those up-tempo, catchy tunes! I love that your images come from the Jersey shore and capture that slice of America. Great shot of kids in the mist...and that last shot leaves me thinking she ran so fast she lost her shoe!!
ReplyDeleteOh my, love that 'jersey bound!' I also love that this link has me listening to songs with new ears! Such fun.
ReplyDeleteWell it's nice to know that you had a bit of a time with the song too. - Although I do like your interpretations very much. My favorite was the one with Ferris Wheel and a close send the traffic shot. Quite a switch next week to "ol Blue Eyes."
ReplyDeleteYep, I like all kinds of music. I'm open to suggestions too. Next Sunday I will be posting a song that was suggested :)
DeleteHey Kathy, How about the Eagles - Get Over It.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots !!
ReplyDeleteGreat interpretations Kathy. Just love the light in that Beach Mist shot - fabulous!
ReplyDeleteAs always your images are beautiful...and I do LOVE Bruce! It has just been announced that he is returning to Australia early next year... i must start saving my pennies this time....
ReplyDeleteI love the way you translated the theme too...in so many different ways.
I really REALLY love that blurred ferris wheel shot. Renee.
ReplyDeleteHoly schmoly my friend. This is fabulous. The ferris wheel in motion I think is my fave. I need to get over to Old Orchard Beach (the closest thing we have to the shore" before the amusements close for the summer. I seem to favor that place in winter when everythaing is shut down. I think it's the tourist avoidance factor.
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for bokeh headlights at night myself and that first shot of the road is fabulous. Wonder if you were "Born to Run" to get in and out of the street before getting honked at. Jersey or Philly-you get a honk before being run down.
Your linky is going so well-happy for you.
As for that button. I'm starting a web design class in a couple weeks including how the hell to write in HTML. I'll be able to help you out-hopefully. Happy day to you.
I'm going to take you up on your offer to "help you out - hopefully" :)
DeletePulease! THESE are what you came up with after "struggling" - gurl, you must be trippin! These are all great - loving the traffic shot and the kids on the beach - nice!
ReplyDeleteNow Frankie/Chairman of the Board - YES, now you're talking. I'm not so familiar with this song, but I'm sure it will be fun.
You had some great pics to go with the lyrics, Kathy! The first one looks a lot like LBI, but then again I think the shore towns look pretty similar. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou have the mostest funnest blog in the entire blog land. Seriously.. YOU IZ FUN!
ReplyDeleteMy brain was going the same way as yours with this song, but I ended up only posting the first photo, rush hour traffic.
ReplyDeleteLove your take on it.
Summer is going way too fast, I feel like we never really had it this year.
wow, you sure captured that song well through all the photos!
ReplyDeletehi Kathy...i thought i was the only one kindda stumped with "born to run". But you nailed it! LOVE your photos. Maybe it is partly because i grew up in the area...Mendham, New Jersey. And i was always daytripping to the jersey shore. Your photos bring back a flood a great memories! Love the song for next week...Sinatra is "my kind of guy" :~) Thank you so much for hosting this super fun party!
ReplyDeleteI can't pick a favorite!!! These are all so perfect!!
ReplyDeleteHello Kathy, I love that shot of the kids on the beach, boy are they animated, he's a high stepper. Blessings!

ReplyDeleteExcellent and very creative photography ~ captions a delight ~ for Born to Run ~ thanks, carol, xo
ReplyDeleteOh my - Frank Sinatra? You're "singing my song" now girl! Any excuse to pull out my Frank repertoire is acceptable!
ReplyDeleteWow! I thought each photo is my favorite, and then scrolled to the next one -- new favorite! These are all wonderful interpretations. I love the creativity of the night shot. Very effective. And the one croc on the post made me smile.

ReplyDeleteSo this set of images is sheer perfection! Dang girl! Love them all. I'm bummed not to have a submission today. The weekend got away from me, but I will enjoy everyone else's!
ReplyDeleteI love all your shots this week. For the life of me I cannot come up with a single thing for Bruce. We have a serious amount of stuff going on this week. But, I'm totally down with Summer wind next week.
ReplyDeleteFan-freakin-tastic!!!I LOVE it!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this idea, and I love your photographs. Just beautiful! I now have that song playing in my head too! :D
ReplyDeleteGreat creative photos for this song! I realized another thing that is lacking in my photography is motion/movement--good to have something to work on! I love all the old songs but like a lot of new music too--I'm adding the most recent songs from my iTunes playlist for you to consider for your challenges: Rolling In the Deep/Adele, Rumour Has It/ADELE, Ready, Set, Go!/Gabin & Mia Cooper. Misery/Maroon 5, Moves Like Jagger/Maroon 5, Radio/Raphael Saadiq,Set It Off/Timomatic, Drive/Casey James, Shake Move Wiggle/District 78, Whistle/Flo Rida, Come See About Me (Glee Cast Version), I'm Still Standing/Glee Cast, Pontoon/Little Big Town. Troublemaker (feat. Flo Rida)/Olly Murs, What Makes You Beautiful/One Direction, Don't Stop the Party/Pitbull, Gangnam Style/PSY, Love Letter/Clairy Browne & The Bangin' Rackettes.

Gert Jan
The bokeh shot is my favorite! Great work Kathy!
ReplyDeleteLove that song....always did. I love your first picture.
ReplyDeleteLovely set of photos. The Ferris wheel is my favourite.
ReplyDeleteLove the pics Kathy. The one of the kids is my fav. Side note: I threw away a pair of boots at the end of the season this year. They were so through - but I'm having some kind of boot anxiety that they are gone. I kinda forgot until you said "BOOTS".
ReplyDeleteHi! It's very good that the summer is going to an end.In Tokyo days of the boiling heat continue. It's 34°C today. All of your photos are very beautiful I like the Beach mist photo very much. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI am loving this Song-ography!! Combined two of my favorites...music and photography!!
ReplyDeleteThese are just too good... *laughs... I want to be this good one day!
ReplyDeletemollyxxx
What a delightful group of photos to accompany this song. Not easy, I would think. The photos are each special. Some people have mentioned a favorite but I don't think I could choose.
