I met someone special...

The week that was...

I met someone very special last week.  Her name is Thing #3.  And as I suspected, she is a pretty cool kid.  Yes, we live in the same house.  Yes, we "see" each other occasionally.  Yes, we cross paths en route to the fridge.  Yes, she is a 15 year old teen-aged girl.  Which means...lately we've enacted a "mutual toleration" pact in order for survival.

But this past week a detente occurred.  We DID some things together.  Which meant sharing more than one word answers.  We actually formed complete sentences and thought patterns.  And I want to emphasize this is a WE situation.  It's mutual.  I'd resorted to acting like a teenager too. Which meant two teen aged girls living in the same home.  Even worse?  Had we been in high school together at the same time, we NEVER would have talked to each other because we would have been in two polar opposite "cliques".  Exactly like what was happening under our roof.

The power of words, and taking the time to share them.  It's powerful.  It's healing.  It helps to shed light.  And I saw what I kinda suspected all along.  Thing #3 is pretty amazing.  VERY different from moi in many ways.  She is an artistic soul, and loves to make a statement.  She marches to the beat of her own drum.  And she marches in footwear that is waaaay more comfortable than anything I would wear.  Which means...she's smart too (but I already knew that).

Would we have been friends had we been teen age classmates?  I doubt it.  I think we would have been sitting on opposite ends of the cafeteria at lunch, not really knowing each other.  And that's a shame. But I'm pretty sure I would have given her kudos.  She would have been the girl that I admired for having gumption and opinions.  To not merely go along with the crowd because that's what everyone else was doing.  Yep, I would have wished I had her backbone...but...just not her shoes.

  7. Those are always sweet moments, I had some good times with mine today as we both commiserated about how we hate shopping, haha! Take off the hightops, add some white stripes and those are my shoes!! ;)

  9. Wonderful! Gives me hope. I have an almost 15 yr old boy that pretty much just eats and grunts when I actually get to see him passing through.

  10. So glad that you had that great day of connection. At that age, it is often few and far between that that happens. Hope you have many days like that. Fortunately things do improve. Love those comfy shoes she has on!
