"Who's There?"
Ambler, PA
Spring. The temps don't say it's Spring. But the calendar does. And even MORE reliably? The annual decimation of my front door wreath for Spring nesting purposes has begun. Twig by twig Spring has sprung. And that hairy eyeball the one on the left is giving me? Looks like I'll be using my garage door for coming and going. Sure not gonna play chicken with a finch.

Ahhhh, so neat. And you'll have baby birdies. What a great way to usher in Spring!
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny that they are deconstructing your wreath. Daring little devils aren't the?!
ReplyDeleteLOL! You are toooo nice! I have renamed our feathered friends (blue jays) in the neighborhood "The bird mafia!" If you come within 100ft of where they're nesting they come swooping down on your head like a 747 at full speed. For that reason alone they can't nest anywhere near my house. As soon as I see the beginnings of one...demolition time! We have a big lot though, so I am nice enough to allow them to use the trees.
ReplyDeleteI understand this completely! I've nearly had my head taken off by a mama bird.
ReplyDeleteIt's so funny to see them on the wreath giving you the stink eye.
Puts me to mind of the summer a bird was bound and determined to get to the berry vine I have as a valance in my kitchen window. Bang, bang, bang against the window and the sucker just kept coming - I guess until it didn't have any beak left. Worse, it wasn't like there wasn't enough other 'stuff' to gather and make a nest, but I guess once you see the good stuff, the crap laying around outside just isn't good enough.
ReplyDeleteYeah, my husband says that's MY problem too :)
DeleteI think that's neat that they are that close for you to get such a great shot. :)
ReplyDeleteKathy, I intended to get nude heels but I didn't like them so I decided flats would be nice. I am glad I got them. I love the way you said that one is giving you the hairy eyeball. hahahahaha. I had a big door wreath once and my dds made me take it down cuz the birds would scare them and fly at them when the were least expecting it. Your post reminded me of that issue we had. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI get that every year it seems. I'm afraid to use the front door.
ReplyDeletePOSH
I love that they allowed you to get this shot and didn't fly away! I also like the effect that the pane of glass gave the shot. Nice! I hope they are just taking things away from your wreath and not making the wreath itself their new nest or that could really be a problem. I remember one year we had a pair of birds nest in our potted Alberta spruce right next to the door. Every single time we opened the door to go out we'd fluster the birds and they'd fly off. It's a wonder they were ever able to sit long enough to lay a few eggs, but they did.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I think it might actually be turning Spring. Finally!

Amazing! Makes me want to have a wreath for nesting! We love finding bird nests each year.
ReplyDeleteOh I don't like it when birds start nesting in the wreathes on the front door. I had a robin start one a couple of years back and because they use mud, my front door was a mess. I was definitely a home-wrecker because I tore it down before she could lay eggs.
ReplyDeleteThey've been out looking for my front porch ferns, which I've yet to purchase. :)
ReplyDeleteThe males are just so cute!
Beautiful shot of a lovely bird ~ Wonderful! ~ ^_^
ReplyDeleteI don't blame you, I wouldn't play chicken with a finch either.
ReplyDeleteHugs~
Good shot! This happens to my mom every year. It's a little later in the season and it's a Fern but the birds take it over every year. Mom and the pizza man pretty much got attacked one time. Well it was the pizza man and daddy actually because mom didn't open the door. LOL! Not a real attack just flapping and bird screaming whatever you call that. Squawking?
ReplyDeleteI had wrens wrecking my spring wreath last year....I am awaiting their return...Fantastic shot♫♪ My Rurality: http://lore-eleven.blogspot.com/2013/03/a-positive-negative.html
ReplyDeleteoh what a cute nest your wreath will make. Sure sign of spring
ReplyDeleteGet out! That is crazy cool! I know you have to use the other door now...but that doesn't happen to many! How cute none the less in your wreath! You must have good karma!
ReplyDeleteI love that the birds pick your wreath apart for nesting material! Are they actually building the nest in the wreath? Thank you for your comment on my FF/Random 5 post last week! Another Gone With the Wind Lover! That's fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I hope spring comes along. We've been teased, but the chill has returned :(
ReplyDeleteWhat a compliment that the birds feel secure enough at your place to build a nest there. :o) Amazing photo, as usual. :o)
ReplyDeletethat is the coolest image! i LOVE that glass!
