Weight a minute...

"Weight a Minute"
Week #2:  January 7 - January 14, 2013
Project 52 (2/52)
i-phone

The week that was...

Doing good!!!  Last week I began to shake off the cobwebs peanut M&M's and returned to a place that was but a distant memory.  A galaxy far, far away. A land of myth, and a time of magic. This is how Stella moi got her groove back.  AND made me realize how many of my favorite movie lines I could easily apply to how I view Shawshank...I mean the gym:

10.  "Say hello to my little friend"  (Scarface)  ... usually how I address the 20 lb weight

9.    "Go ahead...make my day"  (Dirty Harry)  ... usually how the 20 lb weight addresses moi

8.    "Hello Gorgeous!"  (Funny Girl)  ...  usually how the muscleheads address the mirrors

7.    "I've got a feeling we aren't in Kansas anymore"  (Wizard of Oz)

6.    "As God as my witness, I'll never go hungry again"  (Gone With the Wind) ...'cause I'm so freakin' hungry when I finally escape this torture chamber

5.    "Snap out of it!"  (Moonstruck)  ...  usually reserved for when I feel like turning around and walking OUT of the gym.

4.    "I feel the need...the need for speed"  (Top Gun)  ...  unfortunately, the treadmill and I disagree, often.

3.    "One man woman wolf pack"  (The Hangover)  ...  do I LOOK like I want to socialize?

2.    "You're killing me Smalls"  (Sandlot)

and my #1 movie quote as it pertains to my time in the torture chamber...

1.  "At my signal...unleash HELL" (Gladiator)

The gym.  It's sort of like "The Breakfast Club" with all the different cliques:  The Grunters, The Chatterboxes, The Fashionistas, The Muscle Heads, The Soccer moms.  Not to mention those Jerks who don't re-rack those 100 pound weights, AND the slobs who don't wipe down their machines after sweating all over them.  "What we've got here is a failure to communicate".   But when it's all said and done, "Tomorrow is another day" and "I'll be Back".

Hasta La Vista...baby.

  1. I love that you even photograph the gym. Is that your motivation to go? I should try it :). Love the angle!

  3. Oh my God the endorphins are in maximum overload!! I think your score; Kathy 1, gym 0. I go almost every day-2 days spinning, 2 days "body pump" (oh pleeez) 1 day continuing PT for sprained ankle, and 2 days either brisk walking on the treadmill or outside if possible. I'm afraid if I don't stay on this self-imposed ritual and slack off, I'll NEVER get back in there. It's so hard to motivate once you fall off, so as the sign says in my gym this week "you got off the couch, congratulations. keep going". One of the nicest quotes thus far, but they're child's play next to your movie quote brilliance. Obviously you're not a grunter, chatterbox, soccer mom, jerk, or fashionista (well, maybe a little bit). You're a meditator in motion thinking up all this fun stuff to write on your blog. Great repetition and leading line on those weights. PS 20 lb and I do NOT know each other. I could introduce you to 10 lb. Much nicer personality.

    1. Susan, you are SMART to keep going. I fell off the wagon for about a month when my dad's battle with Alzheimers neared the end...until last week. Once you fall off, it is sooooo freakin' hard to jump back on! Lord have mercy :)

  4. Hello, gorgeous!! And the Oz quote - of course! And so true about the gym haha! I wrote an anthropology paper once on the mico-culture of a gym, it's fascinating!

  5. ROFL...the gym seems to have a bit in common with my day out at the Battle of Galveston this past weekend. Some very interesting observations about people with cameras, and phones. Okay, maybe not interesting, more like very very frustrating..."What we have here is a failure to communicate".... ;) At one point I leaned over to my husband and said, "At my signal...unleash hell" LOL

  6. lol...too funny, as always! I'm hoping that after reading this post, some of your motivation and dedication will rub off on me...I can't seem to get my exercise groove back yet after the holidays. I need to get started!!

  10. Love your post! The only ones I didn't know were 1, 2 & 3 - though I've seen Hangover. Since I got to the gym on base, there really isn't a window between grunters and chatterboxes. It's annoying.

  15. OMG - I am so laughing*out*loud and can visualize each of these and suspect I will remember them when I return to Shawshank, er I mean the gym tomorrow. Great iPhone shot too. (every try to take one of these while on the treadmill - I have, and it ain't pretty!)

  18. Haha! That's so funny - and I love the title, too! Nice, unusual subject matter, beautifully done!

Love the sense of humour. I hate exercise, too, but must do at least some to keep the blood pressure down, so I identify with your love/hate (or is it hate/hate?) relationship with your exercise equipment.

  20. Oh you poor dear.........that is why I keep my weights at home. This way I can work out in secret and people wonder how I stay so in shape because they don't see me running, walking or going in or out of the only gym in town (er, next town over). Oh darn my secret is out! I love the shot. And, just wait until your better half gets a load of the new you............... (I don't think you need to blog about that though, we'll forgive you.) :)
    Hugs,
    Carol

  21. Great shot and great read. Love the quotes, hate the gym. I prefer to work out at home in front of my DVR. My motivation is not letting myself watch my recorded shows unless I'm moving. The only time I use the gym is if I'm stuck there for 3 hrs waiting for my kids to finish swim.

  22. I will never be able to look at 20 pound weights the same way again. Also I only use 10 max ;) great list Kathy, love your spin on it so much. Go you!!!
