Transformation...

"There is no single stroke that is going to transform water into wine,
or straw into silk."

--Coleman Young

Obviously a man in desperate need of some motivation.  I can relate.  I've been hitting a brick wall when it comes to transforming my thought process and motivation out of Thanksgiving and towards Christmas.  Bah humbug. Definitely a case of  post-Turkey let down.  Take two aspirin and get lost in Pinterest decor ideas wasn't working. I've been staring at the pile of plastic bins filled with Christmas decor strewn about my basement floor, overwhelmed as to where to start.  Seriously lacking the motivation to just dive in to get this party started.  "Just do it"?  Ha, I have a different suggestion.  Not sure WHAT was going to get me out of my funk.  Maybe this would be the year I go the "less is more" route with holiday decor. After all, my Things and Better-Half have NEVER experienced that from moi.  Now THAT would be a transformation.  They might not even know who I was.

"Transformation"
Ambler, PA

But sometimes if one is lucky, a single unexpected gift can transform the impossible into reality.  So yes Coleman Young, straw into silk with a single stroke of good fortune.  As far as "water into wine"...well, I visited the State Store last week so I don't need any help in that department.

The alarm went off this morning and I stumbled into the bathroom to wash my face.  As I looked blurry- eyed out the window ('cause I forgot to bring along my glasses) I THINK I saw a whole bunch of white out there. Obviously I need to watch the Weather Channel more.  But I refuse to do that because I equate incessant Weather Channel monitoring and daily updates on the price of gasoline akin to being a card holding member of Geezer-dom.  Plus, it's just nice to be surprised on occasion.

And sometimes just a possibility, a thought, a single stroke, or even a snowflake can transform us.  So sorry Things and the Better Half, you will not get to experience a "less is more" Christmas this year.  I'm now in the mood to transform it, decorate it, let it become....falalalala.  And I can thank a blurry-eyed look out my bathroom window.

  1. I just told the girls I don't want as many decorations this year, and my oldest said "you say that every year". But I mean it! We haven't even started yet.

  4. It must be hard have the two big family celebrations so close. We don't have Thanksgiving...so I don't have an excuse for not getting the decorations out!
Nice photo... I would love to look out my window and see snow.

  8. I usually takes a favorite Christmas song for me. Not one too early played in Walmart. But something timely happy and just right in my time. You know I just heard "State Store" for the first time this weekend. Then you wrote it in your Sunday post. I wouldn't have known what you were talking about. I've always heard Liquor Store, ABC and I don't know what my grandfather was calling it when I had to sit in the car with my grandmother and whatever he came out with was still a big secret. Apparently I had a big mouth and they couldn't tell me anything.

  9. I have always been of the "less is more" mentality; partly because in the past I couldn't afford the "more" and had to make do with less. So if you've got it, flaunt it. Go hog wild and decorate, decorate, decorate........then post pics so we can
see your handywork. :) Hope the rest of the week is good to you! :)

  10. I look forward to seeing the transformation...I'm assuming some lovely Christmas photos will be coming soon? :) That white stuff always helps set the mood - I need some of it here to transform me. I'm still staring at my Christmas boxes, too!

  11. Your photo caught my eye at Communal Global, and your post made me laugh. I know just what you mean. I said the same thing -- let's have a minimalist Christmas decor year. Ha ha! Now you'll have to show us photos of your decorating!

  12. Well, I'm hoping it's not the white stuff that has the transforming power, 'cause if it is, I'm in deep doo-doo! And I won't be holding my breath. As for less is more, well a sick hubby and cooking and cleaning all by myself that darn 20lb turkey for four that he HAD to have, well, I didn't even set a nice table, we ate in our pj's in the family room, how pathetic!!

  13. White stuff...ugh! Glad it has not surfaced in my neck of the woods yet. I'm sure the spirit will hit you once you get started. Start small like putting the wreath on the door & build from there. I can gather from what I've learned about you thus far, downsizing is not really your thing. A passing thought, but not your thing...lol Can't wait to see the pics.

  14. It took me two days just to decorate the tree. I just can't get into it. And I know for darn sure I won't be getting any of the white stuff here.. I still need to decorate the rest of the house. I am hoping I will feel more like decorating tomorrow.. I really don't think I will be doing it today. Maybe some shopping will get me in the mood.

    Love you photo...

    Hugs~

  15. I guess that's why I've been inspired - we already have a ton of snow and right now we have another heavy snowfall warning... I may get 'storm stayed' and have to miss my hubbies Christmas party... hopefully... (just kidding (not))

  16. This year I haven't put out as much. I didn't even put up our big tree mainly because of the pups. Im afraid they would chew it up along with some of my decorations. So the focus this year is the outside decorations......

  17. giggling, you seem to need a break from holidays. :) I only decorate a little when my grandkids are coming. As soon as they are gone it is out again. :)
