A Rose by any other name...

...is still my Mom.

"The Rose"

She is "Rose" to her friends, "Rosie" to my dad, was "Rosalie" to her parents....but a Rose by any other name is still Mom, to moi.  And honestly, there isn't a person who exemplifies the virtues of a rose (love and beauty) more than my mom.  How DID my Oma and Opa know to bestow that perfect moniker upon her at birth?  Never underestimate the power of German stubbornness.  Seriously....DON'T!!!!

It has been a tough couple of years for our family, yet thru it all Rose has held us all together with her compassion, German toughness, and most of all...love.  Growing up, I always viewed my dad as the strength in our family of all girls.  As life has unfolded, and I have grown myself...I'm not so sure I had that perspective nailed exactly right.  Rose continues to prove to me that my eye sight wasn't quite 20/20.  Altho beautiful, roses are pretty darn tough too.  Those thorns are there for a reason.  Beware, but be prepared to be awed in the process.

So an early Happy Rose, Rosie, Rosalie MOTHER'S day to you my beautiful and loving Mom.  Too bad "Rose" doesn't also mean "bestower of creative names" because seriously?????  I wind up with KATHY??!!??  Ya COULD have done better...MOM :).

  10. lovely tribute to your mom. she must be proud of you! and for the record, i don't think kathy is a bad name... it's my aunt's name... also spelled with a "k"!

my mom's name is not rose, but it is sharon, so i always think of her when i hear "rose of sharon". i feel the same about my mom. she is a rock. very tough. but very fragile, too. i loved seeing you refer to "opa". i had never heard that until my landlady who married a man from germany was telling my son to call her opa... and i love it!

beautiful photo of your rose. happy mother's day to you, if i don't have the chance to say it sunday.

    1. I always LOVED having an "Oma and Opa"...because none of my friends had one :) They always looked at me strangely when I would refer to them, and due to their quizzical looks I always had to explain what an "Oma and Opa" were.
