Scavenger Hunt Sunday (2/26/12)...

After my little rant last week, I was surprised to find out how many agreed with my stance on the new word verification.  Yet when I went to reply on their blog I found I had to type thru the gauntlet of words to post.  Which made me realize that some might not realize they have word verification on their blogs.  So please:

Okay...now that I got THAT over and done with, it's Scavenger Hunt Sunday time...and what a week it's been!  Kinda bummed I didn't get out on too many photography adventures since last Sunday.  The weather certainly cooperated, but life didn't.  What did I learn this past week?

That there comes a point where you realize family togetherness might be highly overrated.  I came to that conclusion Wednesday morning after watching back to  back movies "Dinner with Schmucks" and the last "Harry Potter" with the Better Half and Thing #3 starting at 4 a.m. in the emergency room.  Not to worry, all is well.  But I'd just like to say I wish they taught doctors the concept of "efficiency" in medical school.  WHY does it come innately to us moms, yet highly paid docs seem to lack that talent?  Luckily the  whole "family togetherness" kum-ba-yah feeling returned this weekend as Things #1 and #2 came home to see #3 perform in her children's show production of "Honk".  I also learned that who needs to watch "Dinner With Schmucks" when you can just sit down at a restaurant with MY family!

So the camera got put on the back burner this week, and I had to delve into the archives for one of my prompts because I also learned...who wants to miss life while you are taking photos of it?

1.  Handwritten

Handwritten letters delivered via snail mail...it's a lost art form.   After trying to explain the concept of a "Pen Pal" to Thing #3, I quickly realized 900+ Facebook "friends" apparently trumps the idea of a single pen pal.

2.  A Glimpse

Never a good idea to arrive early to the party...

3.  Grey

"You Are My Sunshine"

Had to borrow one from the archives, which makes me kinda grey to admit. But I re-edited it, sooooo...maybe it makes me a lighter shade of grey?

4.  Crossed

"Soft Curves"

I really like the softness, curvature, and how the tip of the leaf crosses past the stem and just peeks out the from the other side.

5.  Bliss

Planes, trains or automobiles...anything that can take me on an adventure brings me bliss.

Can't wait to see what everyone else nabbed for the prompts while I took a bit of a break.  Hope you all get a chance to check out all the great submissions for Scavenger Hunt Sunday at Ramblings and Photos.

  1. Love them all, gray is gorgous and bliss....I totally agree with bliss! My family on the other hand trys very hard to avoid these things, because they know what happens when you give a mom a camera ( and yes it is similar to when you give a mouse a cookie,ha).

Sorry you had to spend time in the ER, glad all is okay. I'll tell ya that's when I really appreciate technology, it helps while away the time.

  6. Love, love, love!! 900 friends? Oh dear! i would take one pen pal instead... How old school does that make me?

  7. Sorry you seemed to have a week from hell... chocolate and wine normally bring me bliss :O) I do love that 'crossed' image, it's so elegant.

  8. Love them all! I think gray is my favourite though, very creative. Oh, but I really love the mailboxes too.

  12. These are so beautiful! I loved the 'glimpse' and 'crossed'. Like you, I went for the letter angle for 'handwritten' - it really is a lost art form. Amazing set.

  13. I too had to pull from my archives this week - also because of life (fortunately no ER) - no shame in it at all. These pictures are perfect - right down the the casually crossed leaf.

  15. Kathy, I have word verication turned OFF on my blogs so please tell me if you are finding it active there. There could be some other problem we are unaware of. Love all your shots. I need a little bliss....unfortunately I don't know where to find any just now.

  16. You recreate those prompts beautifully! Thank goodness for archives (and why I never hit delete...you just never know).

    BTW, loved your rant...

  17. Despite your crazy week, you managed to capture some beautiful photos - so sorry you had to spend time in the emergency room! I'm glad all is well now. Your "from the archives" photo is gorgeous, and I'd love to capture some train tracks with my camera eventually. There's something about them that always makes me feel wanderlust - they lead to mysterious places that surely must involve adventure and new discoveries! I hope your upcoming week is less eventful. :)

  18. Holy Shmaboly! How do I pick a favorite? You are so good at thinking outside the box! LOVE handwritten, because I love writing a good letter, on paper, with a stamp, putting it in the actual mailbox!
Hope you can make it to the migration with us next Saturday!

  19. Spring! Can't wait. Great set.

  20. These are the photos you hide in your archives? I for one think you need to show us each and every photo you take because they are so stinkin' wonderful! When you get back from the Mediterranean (a hint to just get those tickets booked), I'm coming to your house for some photog lessons (and a glass of the cheap Italian wine)!

  21. Pen pals? What an "ancient" concept! I do suppose that 900 friends does trump one lousy pen pal. Ha! Your handwritten shot is so beautiful!

  22. Some weeks, we just have to thank God for the archives! Love your gray, bliss, and crossed. Here's to a fabulous week, now make it happen!!

  23. I'd love to sit here and comment on ALL your photos this week - such quality and clever interpretations. Especially enjoyed your mailbox shot. Sorry to hear that you had to go to the emergency ward with your daughter - yes, it does bring a new meaning to the phrase 'life standing still'.

  24. This is such a clever set - I really like your interpretation for handwritten. I almost went that direction.

  26. I think we were friends in a past life or something....or maybe it's this life. I took a row of mailboxes yesterday too. Didn't come out as well as yours. Love that blissful shot-thankfully someone else has a thing for moving "stuff". Hope all is OK from the ER. 4 a.m.-please!

  27. Wonderful line-up this week, Kathy. But sad to hear time was spent in the ER but happy that all is OK. That mailbox shot is always a fav with me along with that lovely gray shot!!

  28. I am glad you didn't skip this week as your pulled shots were all fantastic.

Sorry about the trip to the ER. Our last trip to the ER was a brutal evening to early morning trip for me and it was brutal. So I feel your pain.

There seems to be an increase in people using wv. So annoying especially when typing on an iPad!

    Have a good week.

  29. So beautiful! Love especially the first one.

  30. ER's are never fun but glad all is ok. Those mailboxes are a new fav of mine from you. And those tracks....wow..Love it.
Hope your week is smooth sailing!!!!

  31. I love the first shot. I am a huge fan of hand written letters. And mail. I love it. I just got matched with a pen pal from a blog a few months ago. I am really excited to get the letter writing going.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I really love your handwritten shot! Those mailboxes are great. I wish I had thought of something as clever for that prompt.

I noticed that our flowers are coming up too, which probably isn't good since it is February! Sheesh!

  33. Really good set:
Handwritten - Love that the poor mailbox is rusty in the shot. It's true that a handwritten letter is pretty much a lost art - although I do still have pen-pals.
    Gray - Nicely processed
Bliss - Very nice perspective on this shot.
A Glimpse, Yep it's a bit early but one never knows how that will turn out.
My top pick of your series:
    Crossed, I love this one.

  34. Great set! I enjoyed them all. The last one is my favorite.

  38. Love them all, but those mailboxes are my favorite! :)

  39. amazing shots and great interpretations of the prompts. Mailbox is where handwritten things go, indeed

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ahhh...you never fail to impress me. Love your collection; the mailboxes perfectly illustrate the dying art of handwritten letters...and your 'crossed' is so very very lovely. <3

  41. great shots. i'm loving the last one... and the glimpse shot, probably because they both remind of spring, and i can't wait for spring!

i just turned my word verification off. i did not know how to do it, but then i realized i had to go back to the old interface in blogger in order to do it. it wasn't so bad at one time, but it seems like blogger recently made those things harder to read. oh, well. i know i used to get so much spam, so i had to have them on. but maybe that has subsided and i won't get as much anymore... hopefully!

  42. Nice set of photos!
Just a quick note to tell you I’ve nominated you for a “Versatile Blog Award”!

Don’t know what that means? Neither did I when I received this award last week from a fellow blogger named Karen at http://thewellseasonednest.blogspot.com/. I did some research and found a website http://versatilebloggeraward.wordpress.com/ that helped me a lot. I also began to notice, as I surfed around, the “Versatile Blog Award” button on some blogs I was visiting. Visit my blog to see the announcement of your blog as a recipient of this award.

Your blog has captured my attention for a while now and your photography inspired me. I love your photos! I like the look and feel of your blog. You are genuine, not self-serving, and not writing to accumulate “followers”, but rather with passion. It is a good chance for me to say “thanks” for delighting me through your blog!
