Scavenger Hunt Sunday (2/19/12)...

Okay, I apologize upfront for this BUT...I need to use my Scavenger Hunt Sunday post for a bit of rant. Is it just happening to MOI?  Or is everyone being inundated with word verification these past few days?  Not just "regular" word verification BUT hard to read, squiggly lined, not one but TWO words of word verification?  It seems like it is on every post I try to comment on.  ARGH!  I'm 52 and my eye sight ain't what it use to be folks.  I like to comment on blogs, but it has become akin to jumping thru hoops...blind-folded.  Quite often, I have to just "guess" on what some letters actually are.  I'm amazed at how often I guess correctly.  If only that strategy had worked as well back when I took my SATs! So I upfront apologize to all those who have this word verification thingy going on.  I don't want to seem like I'm ignoring folks.  I appreciate ALL comments I get here, and I like to reciprocate.  But it is getting harder and harder to do so.  If I can't "guess" the letters correctly on the first try...I am most likely to not try again.  Okay, I try TWO times...but then I'm done.  Three MAX!

Whew, now that I got that off my chest...on to Scavenger Hunt Sunday with the lovely Ashley at "Ramblings and Photos" .  As always, if you have the time I urge you to head over to her blog to see all the wonderful submissions for this week's prompts.

1.  Love

Kisses + hearts = LOVE

2.  Duplicated

"Mosaic"
Manayunk, PA

Pieces + Pieces + Pieces = Duplicated

3.  Trend or Trending

"Privacy"

Whitney + Houston = A very sad trend

Not sure if anything trended higher this week than the passing of Whitney Houston.  So many stated they saw this coming, it was only a matter of time.  Since her death, she hasn't been far from my mind.  Wondering what her life must have been like never being able to fight her demons in private, to always have people looking at her, speculating, passing judgements.  Even tho she was in the public eye, it must have been a lonely existence trying to hide her battles.  Walking the fine line between stardom and protecting privacy. Knowing when to draw the blinds, circle the wagons, heal herself.  RIP.

4.  Paper

Cover + Pages = Paper

OLD paper.  The Better Half's family bible from 1870.

5.  Plastic

"Get Your Ducks In A Row"

Nada + Imagination = Plastic

You know what I realized trying to shoot this prompt?  I just don't have that much plastic around my house!  Thankfully I have my fine jewelry.  I got this exquisite piece up in New Hope one afternoon while with the Better Half.  This bracelet put a big dent in his wallet.  I'm still waiting for the perfect outfit to accessorize it with.

And there ya have it, another Scavenger Hunt Sunday in the books.  I'm going to get my coffee AND my eye-glasses (for all those word verifications) and do some blog surfing to see what every one else came up with this week. Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday.

--Kathy

  3. Kathy, I totally get it with the word verification thing. They have definitely kicked it up a notch with difficulty. Great trending shot and fun plastic.

  4. I love all your shots. The first one is sweet!

I totally agree about word verification. Sometimes I'll jump through the hoops blind folded and other times I just walk away. I wonder if those bloggers know how many comments they lose by using word verification.

  6. Kathy, I'm with you, word verification has been driving me crazy the last couple of weeks, it's definitely gotten harder and slowed the visiting process. I don't have sight problems and I quite often have to guess or reset it till I find one I can read!! Love your whole set and interpretations, especially your take on trend, just beautiful and creative.
I'm taking a break this week! but wanted to visit:-)

  7. I am loving those rubber ducks! Great composition.

  8. So glad you had a bit of a rant about this word verification. I am afraid it might be my fault. Last week I was tweeting about how much I hate word verification and how it is the number one cause of my premature aging. And then blogger changed it to this two word unreadable rubbish. I cannot believe I would say this, but I want the other one back...
    Lovely set Kathy, just lovely!!

  11. Nicely done this week. I can't stand the verification either, and Whitney has been on my mind as well. Such a tragic waste of a beautiful voice...so sad for her family, and sad for all she went through. Love is my favorite shot.

  12. Love the unusual subject placements and composition in all of your shots this week! Wonderful representation of 'trend', and that rubber ducky bracelet is fabulous <3 I can see how you'd want to save it for a really special occasion ;)

And, I hear ya on the word verification thingy...drives me mad, as well, especially those double word ones in odd script in both black and white combos. Arrrghhh...I'll often skip commenting when I come across those.

  13. I feel the same about those horrid word verification.

    Great post...love all your shots

  16. You must live near me : ) I pass the murals in Manyunk all the time while I am driving up the hill to my office in Roxborough!

The word verification thing is driving me CRAZY! I don't even like leaving comments when I see it! I wonder why they did that?

  17. Our first shots are so similar! LOVE that take on "paper".

  18. I am so with you about the word verification! This week it has been really hard! Great shots - I love your bracelet, might want to borrow it sometime:)

    Great set as usual!

P.S. I am with you, the 'word verifications' get on my LAST nerve too!

  20. Absolutely love your Plastic prompt :D

And yes, I'm totally noticing all the word verifications& it usually makes me just not comment ;(

  21. A big YES to the irritating word verification! It is so frustrating because, like you, my eyes aren't what they used to be. Your photos are beautiful - the jewelry image is stunning. Your plastic shot is clever - I also couldn't think of anything plastic for awhile, and was worrying over how to make my Gladware look pretty.

Thanks for sharing - as always, I love your sense of humor as well as your photos! :)

  23. Great shots - and sadly, so very true about the 'trend'. I am completely with you on the word verification - and am equally amazed at the number of times when my 'shot in the dark' guess passes the mustard.

  24. These are great! Love your rubber duckies! I too am having word verification issues. My issue is that I am getting the letters correct, but I can't get them to go through my wordpress ID. So I am having to sign in another route. That works, but it is an extra step. I want to encourage others, but it is getting harder to do so.

  25. awesome photos! really love interpretations esp. the trending - privacy..

  26. Oh so totally agree with you about the word verification thingy...I don't think I ever had one on my blog, found it absolutely not necessary. Your pics this week are wonderful. And I hear you about Whitney. What a sad, sad waste of such a fine talent.

  27. OMG thanks for shouting about the word verification-IT IS SUPER YUCK. I was going to rant on it in a later post today and still may. It is making me NUTS! Pheewww.
I hope I don't have WV...let me know and I'll shut it off immediately.

Your love shot is really nicely composed. Good stuff. I also like the sun flare in your Whitney shot. I stopped watching news and taking the paper about 4 years ago. I can't stand how the media run and run and run with a story. I'm sure they went crazy with this.
I too feel badly about WH. She was an amazing singer who got caught into a losing battle. RIP.
Float those ducks in a relaxing bath my friend.
    Happy day.

  28. These are wonderful!! I, too, used my rubber duckies for plastic :-)
I LOVE your family Bible. It's beautiful!

I totally agree with your word verification frustration!!! Usually they're not even real words, which makes it really hard to guess the "word" when I can only make out one or two letters.

  29. I love coming here to read what you have to say each week! I officially want to invite you to coffee someday - if I ever am in your area!

  30. Hi Kathy!

Just stopped over by way of Dianne's photo blog "Do You See What I See."

She sent me email this morning to let me know about your post today because she thought I would enjoy these photos. And she's was right, I did. I also live in Philly, so I really enjoyed that mosaic in Manayunk. And the shot of the book is flawless!

Anyway, nice to meet you. Have a great Sunday!

  31. So many bloggers have been having issues with the new word verification process this week. It's definitely not just you! The best thing you can do is encourage people to get rid of it.

Beautiful photos! I especially like the ducks.

  32. Lovely, creative, thought provoking. I do love visiting with you!!

  33. Hi Kathy,
Thanks for the comments on my blog. I think I have word verification turned off. I'll have to check. I hate it too!

I wish I had discovered photography too when my kids were younger. Makes me sad to think of all that was missed. I guess I still have a few years though.

  34. I'm with you on the word verification. People can turn it off and save our old eyes the stress!! But I don't think everyone realizes. So, love your lovely jewelry....and even your little duckies. Very creative this week! Hugs.

  35. Yes that word verification thing is just awful! I think that I have turned mine off, at least I tried. Maybe they are trying to discourage use of the comment tool. lLove your shots. Ordered ( or tried to order) my new lens but out of stock. Will wait a bit then try another place if it does not get located. Can't wait to get that lens.

  36. You crack me up! Those new word verification are the pits. I swear to you that I had to try nine times to get one itty bitty comment to go through and it really irked me. The person was a new blogger and I wanted to tell her because most likely she didn't know, but then I would've had to type another comment and try to decipher any code and I just didn't have it in me.

On another note, your trend picture is very neat. Love the sunflares!

  37. I love the negative space in your photos. Great shots!

  38. The book is definitely my favorite one! It's not always easy to capture one simple object in an interesting way. Well don! And I love your idea behind trending.

    ReplyDelete
  39. absolutely agree with you on the word verification. Can we please turn all that off?! You rocked the prompts this week Kathy. that Bible is gorgeous...love the way you showcased it.
And those rubber ducks? TOO cute.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I almost did something similar with Whitney Houston trending. I really like your paper and plastic shots. And I agree with you about the word verification. I was just thinking that the words are so hard to read!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Wow I love them all the bible is awesome. The little ducks made me chuckle great set.

  42. Really great set - especially those ducks. More important, I completely agree with your rant. There seems to be even more word verifications out there right now.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm with you on Word-V - It sucks.
That being said your prompts were all great.
The LOVE shot is fabulous as was the Plastic - What a great bracelet.

    ReplyDelete
  44. ALL your interpretations are amazing... I love the way your mind words... sort of a twist on words... stretching it to match what you have on hand.
    My fave pic = LOVE.

  45. It took me a while, but I finally figured out how to turn off verification. I'm at that "age" too and find it hard to see those squigglies.

    ReplyDelete
  46. LOL, I refreshed the page thinking the exquisite piece of jewelry picture hadn't loaded, and then realized it was the picture of your ducks!

Love the family bible, absolutely gorgeous!

I totally agree on the word verification issue. It's a total pain, especially when they pop up after you post and are about to leave the page!

    Have a great week!

  47. Love your shots. I can't believe you don't have any plastic jewelry hanging around.. Hee Hee. But I love the plastic ducks..

    Hugs, Linda
