"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"...

Anyone seen that television show?  Cracks me up BIG time, sooooo directly NOT in proportion to Danny Devito's stature (one of the stars of the show). If only the title reflected the year long weather trends here in Philly.  More accurately from December thru March it is usually "It's Always Slushy in Philly."  But this winter so far,  I've been a happy galoshes and shovel-free camper.  It sure has been beautiful here the past month.  With temps in the 60's it made January a lot more tolerable in this neck of the woods.  So yesterday I took advantage of the sun rays and warm temps, jumped in the car, rolled down the windows, busted out some Springsteen, and just drove. Aimlessly.  I'm sure in circles at some points. In the interest of full disclosure:  I do LOVE to "roll down the window and let the wind blow back my hair" when the Boss tells me to in "Thunder Road".   And I wound up in....LUMBERVILLE????

Lumberville sits directly on the banks of the Delaware River in beauuuuu-tiful Bucks County.  If you don't know your Philly geography, the Delaware River separates Pennsylvania from Jersey.  Actually, a LOT separates Philly from Joisey.  But for my safety, let's stick to geography.  Afterall, I have to answer to some Jersey family and friends.  Altho, I've never understood why George Washington felt he needed to leave PA and cross the Delaware for some Jerseylicious-ness.  Sure hope he had EZpass to pay the toll!

The Delaware River is only 800 feet wide at Lumberville.  The town was once connected to Jersey by a covered bridge.  But now it is a pedestrian bridge.  Yes...I walked from PA to Jersey...and boy am I exhausted!

And just so you don't get confused by the foreign ways in Jersey, an American flag hangs halfway between state lines to remind us that altho you are crossing into a different world...we are still in America.  Remember that "Melting Pot" concept you learned about in grade school?  Well...

But I continued onwards and kept reminding myself that Jersey DOES have redeeming qualities.  Like the shore (NOT 'beach' but SHORE), Jersey tomatos and peaches, Taylor Pork Roll, the Boss and yes....I do love my Bon Jovi too.

800 feet later, but it seemed like.....well...800 feet....I reached the shoreline and disembarked down the gang plank to Jersey.  Surprisingly, no custom's official to welcome me OR translate.  They talk funny over there!  Not like us Philly folk.  Hmmmmm, not sure WHY the peeps of Lumberville have such a need to get to Raven Rock, Jersey that they need their own bridge.  Then it occurred to me....must be the opposite way around!  DUH!  After all WE have cheese steaks, hoagies, Tastykakes, Mummers, cream cheese and MUCH smaller hair. Not to mention a BASEBALL TEAM!  Plus, you just gotta love how humble and soft spoken we all are who live in the center of the universe.  So around I turned and the sun hit me in the eye as if the angels were showering me with golden beams and hallelujahs, guiding me back to the promised land...AKA Lumberville.

Yes, it was good to be back in America Pennsylvania. After all, the show isn't called "It's Always Sunny in Joisey" now, is it!?!  Altho they did have an hilarious episode where the gang heads to the Jersey Shore.  Haha, now THAT was a funny one!

After I got home I googled Lumberville, PA and found that it is a pre-Revolutionary War town.  Not surprising given the architecture I saw there.  But get THIS...Julia and Paul Child were married there in 1946!  Bon Appetit!  Cheese steaks wit Whiz for everyone!

  7. Laughing laughing laughing. My biggest guffah was when I noticed you crossed out Mummers. OMG.
I've been to Lumberville-it's so quaint and much preferred stop than the busy-ness of New Hope, but must confess....a trip across that bridge to Lamberville works for me.
Never heard of that show-no cable. Will have to search for it on line. Sounds like fun. Happy day my friend. Beautiful images. I see you're enjoying that new 50mm.

Bet you feet were tired. This is my first visit to your blog, and it was quite a treat for the eyes. Hope to be back next week. genie

  28. Love these shots of your crossing over to the dark side. Some I like best for what's not the focal point. Really works well for those macros.

  29. I enjoyed this. My husband (Bronx born and raised) always says disparaging things about New Jersey, perhaps because he had to drive through it regularly while stationed at Fort Monmouth in 1957.
Me, I'm a California girl and have my doubts about any place east of the Rockies ;)
