Scavenger Hunt Sunday (#23)...

So guess what?  Philly finally got some snow!  I've been eagerly awaiting the arrival of some snow this year so I could practice with my "James Dean" taking some snow shots. The Better Half couldn't BELIEVE how excited I was when I opened up my eyes and saw snow this morning.  I think that was the first time in almost 30 years of marriage he has seen that phenomenon!  I had fun, but the realization that I had a LOT to learn was a bit frustrating.  I'm going to give it 24 hours and then take a another look at my captures for today.  I'm hoping some time will give me a bit better perspective.  Cause right now?  I feel like I let my rebel down.

Since I spent the majority of the day on my snow "stuff"...of course I let Scavenger Hunt Sunday slip away until Saturday night.  Yikes!

1.  A Day in My Life

Seems a day doesn't go by that I don't have to explain to SOMEONE my name is Kathy....with a "K".  Come on people, I have little to work with here.  52 years later and I STILL give my parental units grief for naming me just KATHY.  Not Kathleen or Katherine....just Kathy.  I feel I got robbed here because I am soooooo much more than a "Kathy". And lest you think they made up for the first name slight with a creative middle name, I have one thing to say....ANN (WITHOUT an E!)!!!!!  Do you KNOW how much trouble that got me into in school when we were suppose to fill in our FULL name on papers?  If I'm just gonna be a "Kathy".... let's get the "K" right at least.  But you know what is worse? When someone asks "Is that Kathy with a Y?"  Seriously???!!??? Hmmmmm...I think I need to blog more in depth about this :)

2.  Black and White

Wasn't sure if this was supposed to be a b/w photograph, OR a photograph of something b/w.  My confusion isn't surprising since very little is ever clearly black or white to me.  Here is Thing #3 at the breakfast table at 6:45 a.m.  Early mornings aren't a very conversant time for EITHER of us...so I just took her photo because she satisfied a prompt, and left it at that.

3.  Sunset

State College, PA

Have to fess up...archive rummaging for this one.  Taken out the window from a moving car enroute to Penn State.

4.  Four (4 photographs that go together)

5.  Colorful

Before:

After:

Okay, I just have to say.....cellophane is REALLY hard to photograph!  M&M's too...because my subject kept quickly dwindling away.  Hate when that happens :)

Well Kathy (with a K and a Y) hopes you take a few moments to pop over to "Ramblings and Photos" to check out all the other amazing Scavenger Hunt Sunday submissions.  It is my favorite way to spend my Sunday morning with a couple cups of hot coffee.  Well, I like to lounge in my pj's too.

  1. I love the four. Nice! And I do like your "after" shot. They don't stay long do they?

  5. Hi Kathy with a "K" - I like saying that! ;-p

Oh I really like your four shots and you already know I love your A day in my life!!

  6. These are great! Your "four" is really creative and simple. I really liked your black/white shot too! Cool composition.

  7. You're right, great minds do think alike with colourful shots!
Love those lemons too, beautiful photos.
    Have a great day Kathy!

  8. Love them all! Especially those M&M's. :)

  9. M&M color choices? Well, that is just too cool! Love your K shot!

My photography teacher recommended shooting snow shots 1/3 to 2/3 over exposed and on cloudy white balance and I found myself fairly happy with my snow captures...though I don't know what kind of trouble you were having; I bet they were all beautiful!

  10. Nice finds Kathy. My cousin has the same name, and so I never thought it could be anything else. When I’m at S’bucks, I find most people spell my name Suzanne! I have the same middle name as you, and everyone wants to add an “e”. It’s funny how even common names are so confusing to some people.

  11. Your before M&M's shot has got my immediate attention - please DON'T tell me where that is, otherwise I'll buy a ticket with money I don't have just to go there and drool - oh what fun!!! Love your b&w shot - no, actually, love all your shots.

  14. Your Kathy with a K & y, made me laugh, I have the same problem with Sara (pronounced Sarah) and then I made matters worse when I married, as everyone always debates the spelling of my surname, (single d or double d) like I don't know how to spell my own surname! Anyway loved your set, especially your necklace, 4 and colourful!

  15. Love your B&W and sunset. Great colour with the candy shots.

  16. LOVED your Black & White shot! And that's a beautiful "Sunset" image too! And your "4 That go Together" is just simply gorgeous, Kathy. Well done! Loved your set this week. :)

  17. I can empathize with having a name that constantly needs to be explained and spelled. Very frustrating, I know...and, I have to admit it laid the groundwork for when I was naming my own kids :) Your sunset is fabulous...and I had to go to a past pic, too...I think many of us did, this week! And, your dwindeling colourful prop made me chuckle (in addition to being impressed by it, of course :D) Great week!!

  18. Great sunset and love your candy shot. Have a great weekend!

  19. I do love your Kathy with a K shot - and talking of names causing problems, my best friend at school was called Siobhan - such fun and games :O) Am loving those lemons, and those colours in the M&Ms are so vibrant.

  20. Oh, how I empathize with you. Very few people pronounce or spell my name correctly. Another great series for the week. I too, love your four!

  21. I enjoyed your photo story very much. I'm in a colorful mood so the lemons and candies caught my eye this morning.

  22. Hehee you always make me laugh Kathy - great job on those shots especially your four shots

Hope that snow stays around so that you get more shots - over exposure is the way to go with snow....but you'll find that your battery power doesn't last as long out in the cold.

  23. These are great!! I was so excited to finally wake up and see snow falling too! Love your lemon pic - so awesome!

  24. These turned out great, love your K bling! Snow is hard to photograph... I've been having a tough time too! I shoot in raw and the post processing has saved me. Lol

  25. Thank you for my Sunday morning smile! All awesome shots, as laways! I've been known to eat my "supplies" as well!

  27. Hey Kathy Ann....is that Ann with or without an "e"? Just bustin' 'em. When I taught school I had to go thru this with the Caitlin, Caitlyn, Katelyn, Kaitlyn....OK, you get it. But my students (and I had like 600 every year) were grateful that I was a teacher who remembered how to spell their name correctly. It's all in the details.
JDean is NOT letting you down a bit. I love that lemon 4, and your first necklace shot I think is really creative.
As for colorful, I wouldn't have that many left either. Happy day my friend.

  28. Good Lord, I am laughing my head off......when I read your comment on my blog I was wondering about your name. You see, Mike has a cousin Cathy Blackburn (Catherine) who used to live in Hatboro, PA. Then I go to your blog and there you are answering my question. Scary huh! Well, I love your shots and would like to ask your permission to take a copy of the Black & White for some watercolor practice. It would be most appreciated. I have several blogger friends that let me use their photos to paint. I love practicing things like hair, straw, stripes, fabric, etc. Enjoy your day!

  29. You are killing me with the M&M's. I hear you on the name thing. I am always asked if my name is short for Regina. Huh???? Or they want to get all creative with the spelling Geena, Jeana, Jeanna. Whatever- :)

  30. Can't wait to see your whole other blog post on 'K' and 'Y'. My life has led me down a similar path. I'm "Sarah with an 'h'". :)

  31. Great shots! About the name thing..I can relate. I was named Mary Gene two words, not a middle name, and Gene spelled like a boy. I have spent my entire life explaining that. When younger, I hated it, but have come to the conclusion that it made me more outgoing, and opinionated as I've had to stand up to many and explain to All. Guess there's always a silver lining!

  32. The braid picture is gorgeous!! I love that you interpreted black and white that way.

  33. Oh you Kathy with a K and a Y, you think you have troubles, how about the name Deanna?? I get it all from Deann to Diane to Diana. All of your shots are lovely this week, and your posts always make me smile!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ha ha...my name's never been an easy one either. :) That "4" shot is gorgeous, Kathy. I'd hang it my kitchen, for sure!

  35. I totally did the "four" prompt wrong -- sue me.

Wonderful collection today, Kathy Ann. I'm a Nancy Ann, so I can relate to your thoughts on the name thing.

  36. Love...Love...Love your pictures. I was thinking black and white was black and white photograph not black and white in the photograph. Love your interpretation! I also love your four shot! And what I can I say about your colorful shot, I don't think they would have lasted long enough for one picture in my house!

  37. Kathy with a K, loved your shots and I really had a good chuckle over your name issues. I wanted to call my daughter Kate but I knew we had to give her a full name so her official name is Katherine. Oh and my middle name is Anne....with the E. :)

Loved the pucker up series as well. Have a great week.

  38. Really creative set all the way through - I love your first shot and also the lemons. Beautiful.

  39. Really fun set. They are all great and your journaling as well. Thanks for the smiles you gave me.

  40. Great photos. As for names - try Nicki - not Nicole, not Nikki (apparently a common spelling) - but plain ole Nicki. I begged mom to change it to Susie when I was in Kindergarten - anything was better than Nicki - sometimes called "Mickey" - err!

  41. Very nice series. It's always a pleasure to see what you come up with. I really liked your 4 series and the Colorful shots.

  42. LOVE the leading lines in your sunset. And can you please direct me to those M&M's immediately?

  43. I loved these especially the day in the life one as I am a Cathy with a "C", not Cathleen, or Catherine, just Cathy! I had a very long maiden name and so my folks felt like Cathy was all that would fit on a line! Now my last name is Sly... so I say Cathy with a C and Sly with an S like Sam, or they think it is Fly! Great job, very fun!

Hi Kathy with a K...love that blurred shot and very cool necklace. I adore that pucker up shot. great idea.
    fun set Kathy

  45. I feel you... I am VALERIA not Valettia, or Varelia... anyways. Call me Val.
Nice set my friend the first image is amazing.

  46. I'm late getting around to everyone's photos, but once again yours don't disappoint - clever and well shot Miss Kathy with a K!

I'm a Terrie with an ie and that's never good. Though I am a Teresa without an H. That's still better than some unpronounceable compilation of letters that's supposed to be a creative name! :)
