Life is short...

...running makes it seem longer.

(as seen on the t-shirt of the guy turning red and gasping for air on the treadmill next to me)

"Born to Run"
(self portrait #1)

The whole idea of picking a word to define your 2012 is a bit daunting.  But after you pick a word, trying to live up to it is even MORE daunting.  My choice of "nourish" looms large.  It's stalking me actually.  Even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just set there (Will Rogers, I think?  Oh just chalk that quote up to Joan Collins too...if you have no idea what I'm talking about you'll need to read my prior post).  So, I'm off and running.  Literally and figuratively.

Trying to expand my comfort zones, nourish growth, by doing a little more each day than I thought was possible.  So today I give you THREE examples of how "nourish" watches over me like Big Brother.  First, I am in my natural habitat on my butt.  Oh it could be anywhere...at a computer desk, my kitchen island, on the sofa. I'm "okay" at athletics...I just don't LIKE it.  Sweating and wearing flats are just not my thing. But back to the gym I've been...AND...I've actually worked out too! Yee Haw! Yep, running, lifting and swimming. Hey, I might as well "nourish" myself into some Michelle Obama arms.

Second, I don't like getting my photo taken.  I'm so much more content behind the camera than in front of it.  Chalk it up to being a perfectionist type-A personality. Okay, throw in a dash of vain.  In my attempt to yet again expand those zones of comfort I am embarking with Urban Muser on a year long self portrait project called In The Picture. How many?  52! Don't worry, I won't be posting all 52 here causing all to O.D. on a Kathy lollapalooza.  But this is my first one, and I will be posting monthly for Urban Muser's link up.  And just to prove I'm Type-A and vain...just look at my left thigh!  It looks HUGE!!!!  Let me just tell you I was flying by sooooo fast in my red pumps that my left thigh is one massive BLUR!

And my third accomplishment?  Nourishing my brain by learning something new.  Just like so many men in my life, I'm learning how to push my "James Dean's" buttons.  Okay, I admit  I LIKE doing this one, haha.  Yep, I learned how to use James' self-timer so that I can tackle these self-portraits I'm committed to.  FYI,  he was a little "off-balanced" too....white balance that is.  Don't worry, I pushed a button and fixed him.

Oh yeah, one more thing...I think I figured out that you burn more calories running in heels than flats!  Yep, life is short...nourishing it makes it fuller.

  2. Love the shot & I think the fact that you were in a gym & on a treadmill in the first place needs a little credit. I have yet to go that far in my search for my 18 year old body :)

  3. You really are my rock star! That is awesomeness! I haven't used my remote I got yet and I'll have to figure that out as I kinda signed on to the same self portrait thing. I joined a flickr group last year and just never did it.

  9. Loving this pic Kathy and I'm sure....you're the only one who thinks your left thigh is huge. I like the brilliance of those speedy red pumps.
Bless you for choosing a word. Too much stinkin' pressure for me. I put enough pressure on myself, so that I don't need to add a word.
Going to try some selfies too. Dont' have a number, just whenever. No pressure. Have a great weekend my friend.

  14. Great photo! Being in the photos is a great resolution. I'm very guilty of not being in photos because I will not hand the camera to anyone and do not have a remote yet. Vanity, yes....I don't want someone with no skills taking cruddy pics of me. :).
