I missed Scavenger Hunt last week and quite honestly...I morphed right back to junior high and felt that everyone else was invited to the party while I was left sitting home alone watching "Love American Style" and eating my Jiffy-Pop Popcorn. But THIS week? I'm back with all the "cool kids"! Just in case you think I'm TOO cool, I have to confess to something that sounds completely "dweeby" if it just wasn't so much fun. I spent the last week making and experimenting with my own home-made tabletop digital photo studio. It's amazing how quickly a day can pass when your head is stuck inside a box! Does that mean I need to turn in my "cool kid" card? In case you missed the tutorial on how to do this, check out Rosie's post at Leavensbloom Photography and make your own tabletop digital photo studio. I did it all myself EXCEPT for the "x-acto blade" part because...I make my Better Half nervous.
And on to this week's photo hunt!
1. Around the home
Candles, candles, candles EVERYWHERE around my home. Shhhhh, my nickname around here is "Electro Woman". I like keeping my life "illuminated", whether it is via electricity or the old fashioned way.
2. Reflection
30 years of marriage leaves one ALOT to reflect upon! For instance, the other day I "temporarily misplaced" one of my rings which caused panic and some self-reflection on HOW I was going to explain yet another disappearance to my Better Half. In 30 years I have lost THREE diamonds out of my engagement ring! ARGH! I stopped wearing my rings because I lived in fear of looking down at my hand and seeing an empty setting on my ring yet again. So what did my Better Half do? He MADE me these "sans diamond" rings to wear instead of my wedding bands. AND, he made one in silver and one in gold so I would have a ring to go with whatever outfit I had on. Which just adds to the whole "reflection" mode I'm in...how DID I get so lucky?
3. Water
"Reflections"3. Water
Philadelphia, PA
It's "water". It's "reflections". It's "around my home". It's a tri-fecta of personal prompt pleasers. But....I'm gonna go with "water".
4. Writing
Boy oh boy, the "writing was on the wall" when THESE little guys got pulled off the headboard shelf when I was little! They came out to play whenever I got grounded. Dad served in the army during the Korean Conflict touring army bases and playing baseball. He got these little hand carved wooden figures on one of his jaunts, and they sat on a shelf on his bed headboard when I was growing up. When I got grounded, they were my only form of entertainment. I would put on one heck of a baseball game and man could THESE guys trash talk their opponents :). They now sit in a glass jar on my living room bookcase. I occasionally get them out and FYI...they STILL can trash talk with the best of them.
5. Mainly one color
University Park, PA
Confession time. I gave my Better Half my camera to hold while I went into the restroom while tailgating up at Penn State last weekend. When I came out he said "feel free to delete the photos I took of those trees". Yeah, yeah, yeah....this is my Better Half's photo. Seriously ticks me off he took such a great photo on MY camera! But, just to make it "mine" I did some SERIOUS editing to give it a "painterly" feel. I vaporized six other people in the picture (poof!), used my current FAV "bakery glaze in vanilla" action multiple times...then went to town with a raised texture I've been waiting to use. So THERE...it is MY photo now :). And I'd like to ask my Better Half one question...would you want ME to use YOUR drill, say "open up wide", and fill a few teeth at your office next week? Hmmmmmm?
And there ya have it. Time to do a bit of blog surfing to see what everyone else came up with for this week's prompts. If you get a chance and want to surf too, check out Ashley's Scavenger Hunt Sunday at

ReplyDeleteOh, how I love your scavenger hunts (and, I know what you mean about feeling 'left out' last week...I felt the same way!) Your photos are incredible, as are your stories that go with them. The winner this week has got to be your 'water, reflection, around the home' shot...doesn't get more beautiful than that!
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on my 'white' post...to answer your question about the curly cue weed; it's apparently got lots of names, including "Fireweed". I found an awesome post from a while back from someone blogging in Alaska...where she writes all you want to know (and more!) about it. You'll find it here:

Oh Miss Kathy!! I would say it's a home run all the way around for you this week. LoVe each and every single one . . . the water is heavenly and your studio box shots came out perfect. All wonderful! After an unfortunate exacto blade incident when helping my son with a school project, I tend to shy away from them, too. The light box is a "must try", so thanks for the info.
