My Toilet Tank Runneth Over...

I have a new "Murphy's Law":  If you make it thru a hurricane and flooding unscathed, just leave it to your toilet tank to get ya!  It appears our newly remodeled powder room has a leaking toilet tank, which has left our newly installed hardwood floor heaved and buckled (let me emphasize I have "Mount freakin' Everest" rising in my foyer!). So I was on a blind mission in the basement investigating how far the water had spread throughout the house. With apologies to my better-half....I know NOTHIN' bout fixin' no toilets!  But I DID uncover a hidden treasure on the basement shelves while dodging cobwebs, boxes of Beanie Babies, and long abandoned American Girl dolls and accessories.  A vintage typewriter covered in a serious build-up of dust and dirt. You know, that leak can just wait a little while longer...

I wonder if Thing #3 even KNOWS what this is!  I should tell her it's my childhood computer.

I really shouldn't wait for a possible home owners insurance claim to discover what forgotten treasures are lurking in my basement.  And to think I was ALMOST stumped as to what to photograph next.  The photography Gods work in mysterious ways, if only they came baring (bearing?) plumbing supplies.  Okay, back to swearing at my toilet.

  2. LOL I LOVE your sense of humor, you brightened my day. Love that typewriter, I have three of the "old computers" lol and I will never get rid of them. Yours is unique with the yellow colors. Love the texture too!

So sorry about your leak and especially your hardwood flooring!

  3. I'm glad you didn't lose your sense of humor. I have a vintage portable typewriter - I'm going to dig that out. Maybe I can get some good shots of it - not as good as yours, but...

Pity about the hardwood floors - we had a burst pipe in our home when we were gone on vacation. The gardeners turned the water back on !! and that's all it took - we had industrial fans blowing loudly for days on end. Mold all over the place, etc. - the house was only 6 mos. at the time ;-( - that was 10 years ago - we're all dry now ;-)

  4. Oh pooh...I could say something worse but this would not be a "family friendly" post, so sorry about the water damage. But what a find lurking in your basement. I stumbled on one of these at an antique shop and they wanted over $100 for it. It is still at the antique shop. LOVE your photos, terrific!!!

  7. Oh yuck! Sorry to hear about the water issue -- but boy what a find!! I wish I could find cool things like vintage typewriters in my basement, but I'm afraid it is filled with rusty tools and broken Little Tykes toys... ; )

    Great processing too!
