A German proverb says:
A fence lasts three years...
A dog lasts three fences...
A horse lasts three dogs...
And a man lasts three horses.
I had NEVER heard of a "German" proverb before. Germans are much too busy being practical than to sit around conjuring up German streudels of wisdom. Chinese? Yes. Irish? Yes, altho it is referred to as a "saying". But German? Believe me, I come from a LONG line of Germans so I can definitively say this ain't no Deutsche Schmartz (not really a German word, but sure sounds like one). If it was, this chain of survival alllllll would have started with the life span of a keg of beer. Which actually...is barely long enough to bother mentioning. So maybe it IS German after all!!! Germans, too practical to state the obvious. I'm sure my Opa would agree.
Haben einen wunderschonen Donnerstag meine freunde...
--Kathy
I like that proverb - I've not heard it before.
ReplyDeleteI love your pictures as well.

ReplyDeleteYou crack me up! Great perspective on the dog & the horses.
ReplyDeletebeautiful photos aside ~ you are a hoot! I also come from a long line of Germans...on my dad's side...with some Russian Jew thrown in on my mother's side...did NOT make for a harmonious combination. But I digress. I never thought about the lack of German proverbs, but you make a keen observation!

ReplyDeleteThere's a great game where you are given the first part of the proverb and each participant must create the ending for it. "Wise and Otherwise". Always fun to play.
There you go again making me smile.. I not even going to try to do the math.. Its late and I have had two glasses of wine.. But I must say the photos looks wonderful...
