Global Warming? Yada, yada, yada...

Hey Al Gore, ya shoulda been in New York City yesterday!  It was soooo cold I didn't even have to worry about a flasher making his presence known (which is ALWAYS a concern in the Big Apple!). Honest to goodness, it physically HURT to be outside. Which completely bummed me out because I had such high expectations for "James Dean" and myself.  But alas, it was just TOO COLD to be outside amidst the towering skyscrapers shading any semblance of sunlight to warm me. And trying to maneuver Jame's buttons and knobs which gloves on?  No could do!  I guess I will just have to suck it up and head back up to another Broadway show when it's warmer.  Oh the sacrifices one must make for their craft.

So I do not have much to show you from my day in NYC.  Despite the extreme cold, I still thank Santa for bringing us tickets to see "The Book of Mormon".  I'm not sure when I laughed so hard.  But buyer beware...if you are even THINKING you might want to see this show...you better LOVE irreverent humor.

"Penn Station"
New York, New York

We moved last year to be closer to Philly so we could take advantage of all the city has to offer.  INCLUDING easy access via train to NYC.  Which is exactly how we arrived, via the hustle and bustle of Penn Station in Manhattan.

"TImes Square"
New York, New York

If ANYTHING was "hot" in NYC...it was these hot sellers!  Hats and gloves.

Yes I do!  I consider it a blessing I live so close to a city that offers so much to see, do and EAT!

"No...New York is where I'd rather stay.  I get allergic smelling hay."  Yep, I always identified with Lisa Douglas in "Green Acres".  I love the billboards, the giant news ticker, the restaurants, the shows, the museums, the hub bub of Times Square.  I just don't love the COLD!

Thing #3 and the Better Half could only take the cold so long before having to duck inside a shop to warm up.  They left me in Time Square to take "James Dean" for a spin...but I soon gave up and joined them.  But it was all worth it because LOOK!  I got my first "non-Christmas" BOKEH!  James..I love you!

"Eugene O'Neill Theatre"
New York, New York

The "Eugene O'Neill Theatre" is quite a gem of a theatre in NYC.  Small, quaint and best of all...it had HEAT!  It was a perfect day.  Thanks Santa!

Still Thawing,

--Kathy

  5. NY is grand. We moved 30 minutes north of NYC when I was in high school, and while I still prefer Philly, it's a magical place, even when it's frigid!! Hope you had a grand day and I'm super jealous you saw the book of mormon!!

  7. Such a contrast of what I posted today. I love city life, as I work in St. Louis, but live outside in a small town. I can appreciate all the city amenities, though! Have a great Monday!

  8. I think NYC is an interesting town, but honestly I don't think I could handle the hustle & bustle. Maybe, I'd like to experience it once...but only when the weather is warmer. lol Glad you enjoyed your trip to the Big Apple. Linking up via Miscellany Monday for the first time!

  12. It really sounds like you love the city. I hope to go there one day to experience the place- always seems so magical. Sorry that it was so bitterly cold for you. Not knowing enough about the geography, are you close enough to do a day trip?

  13. what a city for street photography. I like to think the cold wouldn't deter me, but what do I know? I most likely would have been driven inside by it too. but the scenes you captured are telling of the day. happy day to you.

  14. Such great shots! When it’s too cold I find my battery dies quickly, which was quite shocking the first time it happened. Sounds and looks like you had a great time in spite of the weather.

  21. Mornin' Kathy, great post. Glad you had such a wonderful time. I've not seen The Book of Mormon but did see the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir once there once. Hmmm, I wish it had been the Mormon Tabernacle Choir because it would have made more sense for why I am telling you about it :) Alas, that's just my way. Enjoy your day fellow Blackburn.......

  23. Looks like a fun trip. I can't wait to get back there to see a show. Last one I saw was the Addams Family. It was really good.

  24. It's turned colder here, too. (I'm sorta glad, to tell the truth. I needed a little dose of winter so I could get excited about spring!)

Haven't been to see The Book of Mormon and will probably pass it by because I AM Mormon and suspect it would get my dander up. Sometimes it's best to just avoid something that pokes fun at things that are dear to you. I've heard it's very funny for those who don't have a dog in the hunt. I even know a few thick-skinned Mormons who have enjoyed it.

    =)

  25. Sue...might be a good choice to not see it :). VERY irreverent humor and NOTHING is off-limits (the equal opportunity irreverrence spreads waaaaaay beyond Mormons).
