"Are You My Mother?"...

"You are not my mother, you are a SNORT!"
(P.D. Eastman)

Do you remember this book by P.D. Eastman?    It was one of my favorites as a kid.  The little hatchling who has a mom with horrendous timing.  She decides to leave the nest to find some food (I can sooo relate as I've flown the coop on occasion for a pint of Ben & Jerry's!). And kids just NEVER  have good timing either...the egg hatches in her absence. And so begins the quest of the baby bird to find his mom. He should have just looked in the bathroom, she probably is in there with the door locked enjoying some alone time.

"Empty Nest Syndrome"
Elizabethtown, PA

While visiting the Parental Units the other day, I saw this nest as I pulled into the driveway and had an immediate flashback to one of my childhood favorites.  I don't know, I think perhaps the baby bird seriously underestimated the benefits of having a "Snort" for a mom.

Happy Thursday!

  4. That was one of the books I made my mom read to me over and over and over again when I was little. My kids wanted me to read it over and over and over again when they were little. Now we read it in Spanish for fun. Eres tu mi mama?

  8. Ohhhh, that is right up there with the book "Where are my shoes?" which my grandkids loved. Speaking of nests, would you like a link to the Decorah Eagles Nest Cam? It's so much fun to watch them lay their eggs and hatch the eaglets in the spring. Let me know. I'll probably post it on my blog soon. Enjoy your day!

  18. Great capture- my hubs says that I am too way attached to the kids & that I will have the worst documented case of empty nest syndrome when they move out. I think he may be right.
